TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO TREAT YOU

You’re the Reason Our Kids are so Ugly!

Perceptions

You can have the wrong perception about any situation.

Mainly because communication is so personal. Our senses are how our bodies interact with the world, and we

involve a majority of our senses in communicating with other individuals.

What is the first thing to notice when you meet a person?

Communication

How do we speak to each other? How do we listen to each other?

Are you paying attention?Do you care what they are saying?

Do you give mixed signals?

Active Listening

The way to become a better listener is to practice “active listening”. This is where you make a conscious effort to

hear not only the words that another person is saying but, more importantly, to try and understand the total message

being sent.

Self Awareness

One key aspect of good communication is self awareness

1. Do you treat yourself with respect?

2. Can you separate your feelings from what you hear?

3. Do you care what they are saying?

4. Is what they are saying important/is this person important to me?

Happiness vs. Sadness

How can someone know how to treat you when you don’t know yourself?

Emotions Change Everything

If you find yourself responding emotionally to what someone said, say so, and ask for more information:

"I may not understand you correctly, and I find myself taking what you said

personally. What I thought you just said is ‘XXX’ ,is that what you meant?"
