ST. MARY CATHEDRAL LANSING, MICHIGAN
SPRING FORWARD! Be sure to move your clocks ahead one hour this Satur-day, March 2, before you go to bed, for daylight savings.
HOSPITAL EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED Lansing Catholic Hospital Ministry is looking for additional Eucharistic Ministers to distribute Communion to Catholic patients at Sparrow Hospital and McLaren Greater Lansing especially for the weekends. We are grateful for the generous response from Eucharistic ministers at many different parishes that has helped us fill most of our weekday openings. Time commitment is generally one day per month for 2 to 3 hours at Sparrow or 1 to 1-1/2 hour at McLaren. For further information, please contact Cassian Hardie at 364-2902 or cassian.hardie@sparrow.org.
POTLUCK AND EUCHRE NIGHT It’s time to start up the weekly potlucks for 2019! Our first one of the year will be on Wednesday, March 13 at 6pm in the Parish Hall. We’re here most Wednesdays through November unless otherwise announced in the bulletin. Please bring your own table service (plate, cup, silver-ware etc.), $2 for the main dish and a dish to pass. Our cook teams provide beverages and main dish. Your dish to pass can be homemade or store bought. It’s a great way to meet other parishioners, socialize, and share a meal! If you’ve been missing us, we look forward to see-ing you again. If you’ve never attended, give it a try and bring a friend. All are welcome! Any questions or if you’d like to help, please contact Mike or Terri Hecksel at 517-482-3196. Following potluck, beginning at 7pm, stay around for Eu-chre night! $5 admission fee, no partner needed.
LENT VESPERS & STATIONS Each Sunday of Lent at 5:15pm, Vespers are prayed in the chapel. Stations of the Cross are prayed at 11:30am on Fridays in church. Please join us.

Lent
Our season of penance and prayer begins this Wednesday. Please note this is not a season of punishment and self-hatred. Our penances are meant to aid our conversion, heal disordered attachments and thinking, and remind us that we fundamentally belong to another; we belong to God. There are many ways and questions we can use to go about choosing our Lenten actions. Here are a few that I hope will be helpful. Are there areas of discipleship in which I feel called to grow? (Prayer, study, service) Are there particular intentions for which I feel more called to pray or even suffer? (fasting, intercessory prayer) Are there attachments to things or pleasures from which I feel the need to move away? (what to give up, almsgiving) Are there ways of relating to God and others which I feel called to more deeply practice or receive? (attitudes, forgiveness, accepting truths about ourselves) God how do you want me to share in your Paschal Mystery? (life, death, and resurrection of Jesus) Many of these areas overlap, but hopefully these questions can spark some particular practice or issue in which God would like to move in your life. When we get to the end of Lent, it will not be about what I accomplished, but what did I allow God to accomplish in me? And did I do it the way God wanted it done? We cooperate with God’s plan to sanctify us and He always gives us the best way to participate in that plan. May you have a fruitful Lent and continue to grow into the depths of God’s divine life and our life together. Additional Confession Time
This week we will begin having Confessions on Thursday evenings in the Church from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will also be choir practice going on at the same time for those who may be concerned about safety. We will try this for a year and see if it meets a need. Our current Confession times on Thursday from 11:30 to Noon and on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:30 will not be changing. You are in my prayers. Fr. Karl Pung
