For a small town, we sure do have a colourful past. Did you know: we have the oldest dwelling in BC? Got our name from the mission built in 1861? Have the location of the fi rst train robbery in BC, by the notorious train robber Billy Miner?
Relive our past:• Fraser River Heritage Park – Stroll back in time to the
site of St Mary’s church.• Jack Poole Harbourside Park – View the mighty
Fraser River and iconic Canadian Pacifi c Railway Bridge, the fi rst crossing link in BC to the USA.
• Mission Museum – located in Mission’s fi rst bank.• Power House at Stave Falls – Learn how electricity is
generated at one of BC’s early hydro-electric dams.• Kilby Historic Site – Feed the goats and sheep in this
1920s Fraser Valley living history farm, while learning about life during the early 1900s.

Stave Falls Dam Forest Interpretive Trail - Wind uphill along a trail like an old river bed, through a forest landscape with rugged granite faces. Stop and learn the role of Mission’s Municipal Forest. The view at the crest is breathtaking looking toward Vancouver, and in the fl ight path of bald eagles. Allow an hour.
Hayward Lake Trails – Pick and choose your route depending on time and motivation. Trace the old railway line that meanders along the west side of the lake, taking in the beach and the off-leash dog park. Alternatively take the east side that rolls through the forest, over streams and with a short diversion, to get your face sprayed at Steelhead Falls.
Rolley Lake and Falls Trail – Not only great for the kayak, canoe or fi shing, Rolley Lake has a trail that hugs the shoreline: over boardwalks, where dragonfl ies lead the way to cooler climbs in woodland. Allow an hour.
These are just a sample! Get your Parks and Trails Guide and more info from the Mission Visitor Information Centre.

Rev your engines and cruise the DTR (Dewdney Trunk Road). Two wheels were made for this route where the city melts into the open road. Valleys and curves will keep you as thrilled as the amazing scenery. Highlights include crossing the historic Stave Falls Dam and winding down the s-curves to Hatzic Valley below. You can catch the Scenic 7 at both ends to loop back to your destination.Did you know the Dewdney Trunk was the original link on the north side of the Fraser, originally running from Port Moody to Dewdney, just east of Mission? Still a two lane road, it winds through the back of Mission without a single light. Want to extend the ride? Turn off on Ferndale and follow Stave Lake Road to the heart of Hatzic Valley and motor on to Sylvester before catching up with Hwy 7 again.
Stops en route:Hayward Lake – “Take 5” at the beach or grab a picnic. A country store just outside the park entrance offers road coffee and hot take-out. Hayward beach area has tables, BBQ pits and full restroom facilities.Neilson Park – Stretch your legs and walk off the ride, you’re half way done. A hidden gem, Neilson Park is slightly off the beaten path and offers great views of Mt. Baker and Hatzic Lake.
The scenic 7 offers a more relaxed and picturesque way to travel between Metro Vancouver and Hope, taking in breathtaking vistas and agricultural pastures. Treat the journey as part of your experience and make a point of taking in some of the unique sites en route. Breaking free of the city, Mission starts your tour from gentle strolls around Westminster Abbey to adrenaline-fi lled days at the Raceway. Mix and match at your pleasure!
Did you know: Westminster Abbey is a seminary and working farm? Mission Raceway has one of the fastest quarter mile drag strips on the NHRA circuit?
