INTRODUCTION: SPANISH COSMETICS AND
PERFUMERY MARKET
Stanpa is the Spanish Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfume Association. Founded
in 1952, we currently have more than 400 member companies that manufacture
and distribute perfumes, cosmetics and personal care products in Spain. More
than 90% of the companies in the sector are members of our association
Spanish beauty industry is also a major source of employment: over 35,000
direct and 200,000 indirect jobs.
Spanish industry is very important in the global beauty market, and especially the
weightiest segments are skin care products, toiletries and perfumes.
The sector is characterised by great diversity in terms of types of company
(family businesses, micro-entities, SMEs and multinationals).
Some of the multinational companies have manufacturing plants in Spain and
national companies with a clear international projection.
In 2016, the Spanish perfume and cosmetics industry reached 6.6 billion € of
consumption and, exports got over 3.5 billion €.
Exports have grown more than 1 thousand million euros in the last 5 years.
In 2015 exports have increased in 6,4% + a positive balance of trade since 2006.
Spanish perfumes and cosmetics are present in more tan 150 countries.
Spain ranks the fourth global exporter of perfumes, and the eigth in cosmetics and
toiletries.
Within the EU27, Spain is the fifth exporter in the region.
Spain exports more perfumes, cosmetics and toiletry than wine, shoes or olive oil.

The average expending per capita of perfumes and cosmetics in Spain is 144 €/year,
larger than the European average which is 124€/year.
