WHAT IS SMOKING?? Smoking is a practice in which a

substance, most commonly tobacco is burned and the smoke is tasted or inhaled.

This activity also consider as drug use, as combustion releases the active substances in drugs makes them available for absorption through the lungs.

A cigarette contains more than 4000 chemical compounds among which 40 are carcinogens and other toxic substances.

WHY SMOKING RELATED TO TEENAGERS IN MALAYSIA??

In Malaysia, there is an increasing in number of teenagers who start smoking every day.

50 new teenagers aged below 18 begin smoking in Malaysia.

Studies also show that 30 per cent of boys aged from 12 to 18 smoke in this country.

EFFECT OF SMOKING Many smokers are dying because they

are suffering from lung cancer, heart attack and others.

The number of teenager who are getting lung cancer also increase because of lung cancer.

REASON WHY TEENAGE START TO SMOKE.. The main reason is because they have

friends or older sibling who smoke. Some teens look at smoking as a way

to get through parties, dates, or other difficult social situations.

Smoking also makes them feel older and more sophisticated.

Some teens smoke because smoking may make them appear more like adult.

FEMALES SMOKERS Some teens, especially girls think

smoking is a way to keep their weight under control.

Other people might think that if she has cigarettes in her hands, she is a lot less likely to eat.

Others believe that smoking, will make them look “cool”.

HOW TO OVERCOME THIS SOCIAL PROBLEM? Parents should possess the necessary

communication skills in discussing risk-taking of cigarettes to their child.

Prevent children from violating any further so they can become responsible and successful adults.

Protect society from criminal acts of children.

Parents need to teach children self-control by monitoring the child’s behaviour.

Through education, treatment, and affection, prevention of criminal acts reaches juveniles and assists them into a healthier and better life.
