What is a social network?

“A social network is a social structure made of individuals (or organizations)

called ‘nodes’ which are tied (connected) by one or more specific types of

interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, financial exchange, dislike,

sexual relationships, or relationship of beliefs, knowledge, or prestige.”

A social network service

Enables the building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people.

Generally, web-based and allows interaction through the Internet via email and instant messaging.
