SKY TRAIN PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE 40th STEET STATION

Phoenix, Arizona

Owner: City of Phoenix, Aviation Department

Engineer: Gannett Fleming, Inc.

General Contractor: Hensel Phelps Construction Company

"The installation of the 125'+ long girders required extensive

logistical planning. Coreslab coordinated the operation including;

special transports with steerable dollies, temporary transportation

routes, special 500 ton cranes, and the passing of girders from one

crane to another crane to set the girders over the SRP canal without

incident."

per Leslie A. Moat, Project Manager

Hensel Phelps Construction Company

Coreslab Structures (ARIZ) Inc. recently fabricated,

delivered, and erected 125' long 'U' 54 precast beams for

Hensel Phelps Construction Company, utilized in the

City of Phoenix Sky Train Bridge Crossing into the 40th

Street station.

A "U" 54 precast beam can support one lane load per

girder spanning up to 100' using AASHTO LRFD

Bridge design specifications.

Each member has 3.4 million LBS. force prestressing,

and 2.4 million LBS force post-tensioning. They exceed

typical highway loading.
