Sheep Industry Trends

1. Total Inventory at 7.03 million

2. 3% decline from previous year

3. Breeding herd at 5.16 million(3% decline)

4. Lambing rate in 1999 was 109/100 ewes

5. Operations with lambs down 3% to 66,800

Wisconsin Sheep Industry Trends

• No increase in ewe numbers

• Lambing rate of 140 %

• 4% increase in lamb crop in 1999

• 2,200 sheep producers in 1999
