Over theyearswehaveattemptedtopromoteaprogramtochallengeourmembers,especially thosewho
haveagiftofgiving,togooverandabovetheirnormaltithesandofferingsandgatherresourcesintothelife
ofourchurch.Althoughweareallcalledtogive,asalifestyle,therearethosewhohaveaGod-givenabilityto
tapresourcesoutsidethechurchandbringthemintothechurchsotheworkofGodcanprosper.Initiallythis
programwascalled“KingdomPeople”buttherewassomeconcernraisedaboutthenamebyBishopJona-
thanandothers.Wethencalled it “VentureRaisers”andthen“KingdomBuilders”.Althoughpeople’scon-
cernswereallayed,whatwaslostinthemidstofthiswastheinspirationandchallengeforpeopletogoforit
andbringadditionalresourcesintothechurch.IndiscussionwithBishopJonathanduringhisvisit,Iraised
theproblemwithhimandhecameupwiththename“ExtraMileClub”.ParishCouncildiscusseditattheir
meetingandamendedittoread“ExtraMileClub,Over,AboveandBeyond”.Itat leastgivesusaworkable
nametoencourage,strengthen,challengeandinspireourpeopletousetheirGod-givengiftsandhelpour
churchprosperinthevisionGodhasgiventous.Our-irst“ExtraMileClub-Over,AboveandBeyond”will
bewithTheHonTimManderMPonFriday27thJuneat7.00pm.

thatweareallinthesameboathere–weareallcalled
to bear fruit – we are all called to walk in the good
worksthatGodhaspreparedforus(Ephesians2:8-9).
ThisisnotsimplyacalltoChristians,buttoallhumani-
ty,sincebeforetheworldbeganGodhadanintention
forourlives.Itisnotthatwearesavedbydoinggood
works,buthavingbeensavedandmaderightwithGod
throughJesusChrist–thenwearecalledtowalkinthe
goodworksthatGodhaspreparedforeachoneofus.
That is,Godcallsus toaproductive life, and toassist
ratherthanhamperotherstobeproductiveaswell.
Wenotedsomeweeksago that “nearenoughwasnot
good enough”. However, there comes a time when
“goodenoughisgoodenough”.Ourmottoasachurch
hasbeen:“excellenceisnotdoingthingsperfectly,but
doingthebestthatyoucanwiththeresourcesthatyou
have”.Lookingatperfectionand“goodenough”–there
comesapointwhenyouhavedonewhatyoucanandit
is “good enough”. Laura Stack notes that there is a
balance between getting it right (perfection) and
gettingitdone(goodenough).Toomuchperfectionism
canbedetrimentaltoyourproductivityorfruitfulness:
“goodenough”usually isgoodenough.Herearesome
tipsfortamingthebeastofperfectionism:
• Stepbackandtakealookatthebiggerpicture;
• Setrealisticexpectations;
• Establishdeadlinesforyourself;
• Giveyourselfpermissiontobeimperfect;
• Stopcomparingyourselftoothers;
• Giveyourselfcreditforwhatyoudoright;
• Focusonwhatyouaredoingnow,notpast
mistakesorfutureworries;
• Learntorelax;
• Quitwaitingfortheperfectconditionsandget
started;and
• Askforhelpwhenyouneedit
Productivity or fruitfulness is more important than
perfectionanyday(Laura Stack,WhattoDoWhenThere'sToo
MuchtoDo,SanFrancisco:Berrett-Koehler,2012,71-72).
There comes a time in every projectwhere, although
things could be done better it is time to “freeze the
design”. Too many people fail to be productive and
bear fruit foroneof tworeasons—they try tohard to
getitperfectlyright,ortheydonotputinenougheffort
in so that their project moves beyond being “near
enough”tobeing“goodenough”.
JentezenFranklinaddstoourunderstandingofpersist-
enceproducingrealfruitwhenhenotes:
• Reachingyourdreams–takestime,persistence
andpatience.
• Oneofthegreatestlifelessonsisthis:don’tjustdo
what’sexpected.Don’tjustdowhatyourjob
descriptionsays.Dowhat’sexpectedandthen
some.
• Thedifferencebetweenahighlysuccessfulperson
andanaveragepersonisthosethreewords–and
thensome.Thehighlysuccessfulpersonwilldo
whatisexpectedandthensome.
• Lovegoesbeyondthelaw,isnotlimitedbythelaw,
andisnotbeatenorconstrainedbythelaw.
• Extrablessingscomefromextraefforts.Dosome-
thingbeyondwhatisexpectedandrequired.
• Marriagesdon’tfailbecausematesaredoingextra
foreachother.
Justenoughisnotgoodenough.GodiscalledElShadda,
whichmeanstheGodwhoallsuf-icient-ismorethan
enough,notjusttheget-byGod.He’smorethanenough.
• Don’tdespisesmallthings–faithfulnesswithsmall
thingsbringshugerewards-–bigdoorsswingon
littlehinges.
• Don’twaitforthebigmomentsbigmomentsdonot
cometopeoplewhowaitforbigmoments.Big
momentscomeoutoffaithfulnessinlittle,insigni-i-
cantmomentsofdoingroutine,menialthingsthat
arenon-gloriousandnotreallyexciting.
• HelpPeople
• Doyourbest–andthensome–Youcan’tgothe
secondmileuntilyoudothe-irstmile.Canpeople
trustyouwhentheyturntheirbackandwalkaway
andneverwonderifyou’regoingtodothejob
right?
• WhenGodopensthedoor,walkthroughit–When
Godopensadoordon’tbackup.Don’tdelay.Don’t
beintimidated.Don’tbeembarrassed.Godwillgo
withyouandmakeupforwhatyoudon’thave.

WorshipisabouttellingGodwhatwethinkabouthim,givinghimhonourandglory.
WhenwesingsongsandhymnswearegivingGod,throughthewordsofthewriterofthesong,
honourandglory.Whensongshaverepeatedchorusesorwordsthatwecansing‘byheart’,it
givesourheartsandmindstheopportunitytoreachouttoGodandletourthoughtsnowbeour
ownwordsofworship.
Wehavethisincredibleabilitytobesayingonethingandthinkinganother.Inworshipwecanuse
thisabilitytopraiseGodwithourlipsANDalsopraisehimwithourthoughts.Ifyouhavenot
worshippedthiswaybeforestartbyclosingyoureyesduringapartofthesongorhymnthatyou
knowbyheart.Letyourvoicecontinuetosingthewrittenwordsandletyourheart,mindand
spiritreachouttoGod.
Sometimesthemusicteamwillstopsingingandjustcontinuethemusicwhichthengivesusthe
opportunitytosingourownwordsofworshiptotellGodhowwefeelabouthim.Wemightuse
phraseslike:IloveyouLord,IworshipyouLord,IpraiseyoulovingGod,ThankyouJesus.
Forthosewhohavethegiftofspeakingintongues,thereisalsoaplaceinthismusicalspace
whereyoucansingintonguestoGod.Throughthisyoucanexpressyourmostintimaterelation-
shipwithGod.
Noteveryoneiscomfortablesingingtheirownwordsoutloud,soinsteadcloseyoureyes,focuson
Godandgivehimyourpraisesilently.ThisisatimeforyouandJesustocomeclose.

On Wednesday, 14th May, ThirtyMothers Union members from variousBranches in ourDeanery joined nineladies from our Everton
Park Branch to celebrate our35thBirthdayas anMUBranchand to enjoy fellowship on ourDeanery Day. The day beganwith the Eucharist. We thenmoved to the CornerstoneMin-istry Centrewhere Joanwelcomed the visitors,
with a special welcome tothe Diocesan President,Mrs.DunningandDeaneryPresident, Mrs. de Vries.Pastor Andrew said graceandweenjoyedadeliciouslunch.PastorAndrewthengave a talk on the begin-nings of our new church.
Some lucky door prizes were distributed andMrs.Dunning cut the birthday cake,whichwasmade by Lucy Dix and iced by her grand-daughter.
Our day seemed to be asuccessful, happy occas-ionandmuchenjoyedbyall present. This daycould not have gone sowell without help frommany people and Joanwouldliketothankallofthem:-
Firstly, to Alma Gilchrist for producing a veryattractiveinvitationtobesenttoourvisitors.
