BOOKLET A – USE OAS TO ANSWER QUESTIONS

GRAMMAR – (a) SV Agreement (b) Tenses – present, past and past participle (c) Special

verbs with no past tense (d) Verbs of perception + made, let, helped

GRAMMAR – (e) Past Perfect Tense [commonly used in reported speech] (f)

ensure full-stops at the end of every sentence (including S&T).

CLOZE COMPREHENSION – (a) Understand the meaning of the passage and intent of

the writer (b) Tested words are usually simple words, thus think simply and

conversationally (c) Use colocation skills eg prepositions to help determine the word.

CLOZE COMPREHENSION – (d) Usually at least one word could come from

somewhere in the passage (e) Use comparison skills/antonyms to determine

the word (f) Read forward/backward to grope for the right word

OE COMPREHENSION – (a) Answer in complete sentences (b) Do NOT over-answer

a question to avoid unnecessary grammatical/spelling errors (c) Know how to

quote a phrase or a sentence from the passage (d) Read forward/backward or make

links to look for answers
