Question 1a.Essay plans
Digital technology AS
Edited on windows movie maker – basic software
Written portfolio – folder No photography used Professional camera used but not a lot
of understanding of how it worked (white balance, setting up shots…)
Worked alone – no need for technology such as email/phones/Facebook… for communication
Digital Technology A2
Edited on premier pro. – more difficult software to use therefore took more time to edit. More detail could be used (e.g. adding titles and sound like sound bridges, use of transitions like on the montage shots)
All presented on a blog: not always reliable with bad internet; more efficient and cheaper; can view other peoples…
Edited photo’s with Photoshop (ancillary tasks) Worked in a group: Facebook, email, mobiles –
for communication
Creativity AS
Experimentation with shots, angles, and movement – unsure of what to do – minimal creativity
Following conventions of the genre… playing it safe stunted creativity
All presented in a folder Basic editing software, windows
movie maker – not a lot of choice when it came to making decisions
Creativity A2
More experience with the camera – shots, angles and movement was steadier. More confidence lead to more trialling
More advanced editing software – allowed me to be more creative as there was more choice – room for experimentation
Challenging conventions (e.g. genre specific) All on a blog – allowed me to be more creative
with the presentation of work and research (vlogs, podcasts, powerpoint, excell…)
Research and planning AS Primary research – internet, books… - free
and accessible Just audience research in the form of a
questionnaire – no other ways Basic storyboard and character development
– no drafting or experimentation Presented in a folder – not many interesting
ways to present it Worked alone – less time to go into detail as
there was a heavier work load (time consuming)
Research and planning A2 Primary and secondary research – internet
books… Looking into media theories as well Collected more data using more technology –
Facebook, YouTube, questionnaires, blogs... Allows for a more extensive knowledge
More drafting done – storyboard, shooting script, location recce (edited as we went along as we occurred problem along the way)
Presented on a blog – more organised Worked as part of a group – more beneficial as
more idea were contributed and combined; lightened work load as it was shared out
Post production AS
Editing software was more basic – Windows movie maker: transitions, sounds, titles to film were simple and followed conventions – playing it safe
Had re-do a scene in the film because the narrative could not be fully understood – re-drafting of work had to be done to make the work clearer and experimentation needed to be done in order for it all to make sense: time consuming
No manipulation of photos
Post production A2
Editing software was more complex – premeir pro was used: more choice of transitions, titles to film and adding sound was allowed us to experiment more. Also lead top challenging conventions
re-drafting of work was less necessary and if there was a mistake it was smaller – this is because I had learnt from the 1st year. Allowed more time for experimentation to be done
Manipulation of photos using Photoshop – ancillary tasks as well
Using conventions of Real Media Texts AS
Playing it safe – followed conventions, not a lot of confidence
Using genre specific elements Basic representations Not many similar products research
Using conventions of Real Media Texts A2
Both challenged and followed conventions More conventions used More detail in representation Clearer genre – more genre specific
elements and iconography More complex narrative as we knew how
to get it across to the audience due to more knowledge
Similar products: Black swan, step up, Honey, Save the Last Dance
