Blogging the Right Way

Blogging the Right Way

• I’m your presenter,

Karen Cioffi.

• While this is specifically

for Blogger, much of

the information can be

used for WordPress and

other website

management systems.

What We’ll Be Covering

• 1. Posting to Blogger - use an Effective Title

• 2. Optimizing the Content: Deep Linking, Anchor Text,

and adding a Bio

• 3. Using SEO Settings

• 4. Adding an Image

• 5. Preposting the Article

• 6. Checking, Previewing, and Publishing the Post

• 7. Sharing a Published Post

Why Do You Need to Optimize Your Content

• You probably already heard that ‘content is king.’ Well,

it’s absolutely true. But, in regard to visibility you need

more.

• Imagine being a spec in the sky . . . so tiny and far away

that you’re invisible to the human eye. Well, that’s you in

the internet universe.

• Using SEO helps that tiny little spec get bigger, more

visible, and searchable.

Before we begin, let’s go over four marketing terms

Article Marketing

• Article Marketing: using

articles and posts to

create visibility and

generate website traffic,

usually to sell your books

or products.

SEO

• SEO – search engine

optimization. Tweaking

your content, so SE

spiders can find, index,

and categorize it.

Anchor Text

• According to Wikipedia,

“anchor text is weighted

(ranked) highly in the

search engines

algorithms, because the

linked text is usually

relevant to the landing

page.”

Deep Linking

• According to Webopedia: “Typically, a Web site’s home page is the top page in the site’s hierarchy, and any page other than that is considered ‘deep.’"

• This means that if you link within your post to another article or a deep page within your website you’re ‘deep linking.’

Blog

About You

Testimonials

Services/Products

Etc.

An Effective Title

• An effective title should have a least one article relevant keyword in

it. And, if should let the reader know what the content will be about.

• This: Article Marketing is an Effective Way to Increase Your Website

Traffic

• Not This: Using Articles is a Great Way to Increase Traffic

• Why? Because ‘article marketing’ and ‘website traffic’ are two

effective keywords.

Deep Linking

• Simply put, bringing the reader deeper into your website

(onto another page or to another article) is deep linking.

• To do this, link to another post on your site or another

page.

Anchor Text• The keyword or phrase within your

content that you hyperlink is anchor text.

• You can use anchor text to send the visitor to other pages on your own site or to another information relevant site.

• Example: I am an author-writer-home business online marketing instructor.

• You could highlight any of the keywords in the example and hyperlink (Link) it to another related article, page, or site.

Adding a Bio

• Including a bio is a must, even if it’s on a post on your

own site.

• Your bio should be short and sweet – make it count. It

should let the reader quickly know who you are and what

you’re offering (the benefit to the reader).

• At the very least end the post with your name.

SEO Settings

• To the right of your

posting area you’ll find

Post Settings (see red

circle outline in image).

• You will need to include

relevant keywords in

Labels section.

• Next, go down to Search

Description and add an

effective description.

Add an Image• Above your posting area,

there will be an image

icon. Click on it an you’ll

be given two options:

• 1. Upload/Choose Files

(you will upload from your

computer)

• 2. From this Blog (this will

be the images you’ve

already uploaded to the

blogsite)

Preposting an Article

• In Post Settings click on

Schedule. Once in, you’ll

be able to prepost to

another day in that month

or in a future month.

• You can also change the

time you want the post to

publish – early morning is

usually best.

Previewing• Once you have your post

exactly how you want it,

click on the Preview

button located above the

posting area.

• If it looks good, get out of

there and click on

Publish.

• That’s it – you’re done for

now.

Promote Your Blog Posts

• Social networks are the heavy hitters now.

• What’s being read, LIKED, Tweeted, added to Circles,

and shared through other means is what’s carrying the

weight with Google.

• Once your post is ‘live,’ be sure to share it to all your

social networks.
