Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. (TLB) 21 Man proposes, but God disposes.

Our most important job is to know the Will of God and walk and pray therein.

God will never move outside of His Will.

Never make plans without seeking the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit.

3

22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

This is speaking of our heart’s desire:

Do you want to do good, to be kind, to be loyal.

God sees our heart and judges according to our heart’s desire; not according to our ability.

4

23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

Fear (or reverence) for the LORD and His Ways makes life worth living.

Living God’s Way avoids many of the evils that are in the lives of the wicked.

5

These hardships are very much the result of sin.

6

24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

7

25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

There are people for whom punishment does nothing to teach them to behave,

But it’s worth doing for a lesson to the simple-minded who might have followed their example.

8

Again: 25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

A person of under-standing can learn with just a verbal warning.

9

26 He that wasteth (robs; mistreats) his father, and chaseth away his mother, (doesn’t care for her) is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

He ain’t no count!

10

27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

Hear sound instruction from a godly teacher.

Don’t listen to sinners or backsliders.

11

28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

The ungodly do not believe in justice;

They think they can sin without consequences.

They love sin and seek opportunity to sin.

But, they will not escape judgment.

12

29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

The unbelief of man does not make God’s judgment without effect.

They will not escape.

in this life. Or the next.
