This course will deal with the culture andhistory of Medieval Spain through its art,architecture, music, dance, food, and religioustoleration. Medieval Spain produced a uniquesociety in which the Muslims, Christians, andJews intermingled and lived harmoniously,providing access to higher education andadvances in governmental positions. We willdiscuss how this society came about, how it wasimplemented, and how it eventually collapsed.Lectures will take place both inside and outsidethe classroom as we explore numerous historicsites in Seville including the Real/PalaceAlcazar and its botanical gardens (the home formany scenes in “Game of Thrones”), theCathedral of Seville, the historic JewishQuarter, and enjoy a daily immersion intoculinary delights, Flamenco dance, and music. Excursions will also be taken to the cities ofCordoba and Granada.
