What is Persimmon?

• Persimmons are the edible fruit of sweet taste, yellowish-orange in colour and considerably watery.

• They similarly vary in size from 1.5 to 9 cm (0.5 to 4 in) in diameter, and in shape the varieties may be spherical, acorn-, or pumpkin-shaped• It contains about 80 % water.

HARVESTING METHOD

• Persimmons harvested by a Sharpe clipper or a knife• Cutting is done by leaving a short stem about 4 cm

GRADIND

• Graded and sorting done on the basis of SizeShapeColour• Grading and sorting done manually.

PACKING

• Packed into cardboard boxes ( petti ).• Generally 54 fruit per petti.• Covered in a paper.

TRANSPORTATION

• Done by Trucks, Mazda’s, Carts and loader auto-rickshaws.• Trucks carry approx. 1500

cartons.• The pictures shows some

workers unloading a truck.

PROBLEMS

• Routes are blocked due to snowfall.• Packing damages due to rain.• Commission agent has to pay whole amount of payment in

advance.• Quality loss due to poor management.• Lack of price control systems.• Lack of surveys.• Problems in payment collection.• Lack of Chain Management.
