Literacy:
This term in Prep we are focussing on
blends; the sounds letters make when
combined together. We will continue to
develop children’s reading skills through
a focus on decoding, fluency and
comprehension strategies to understand
the story. We will focus on handwriting
skills and letter formation and continue
to encourage the children to add more
detail to their writing and use basic
punctuation correctly.
Maths:
In Maths this term we are looking at the numbers to 20. We
will learn to connect number names to their amounts. We
will order the numbers to twenty. We will add numbers
together using ‘hands on’ materials. Towards the end of
term, we will focus on ‘measurement’ using language such
as longer, taller and heavier. We will revisit the days of the
week and focus on shapes to conclude the term.
Inquiry Units:
‘Staying Alive’ is the Science inquiry topic this term. We will
be focussing on learning more about, living and non-living
things. We will be classifying living things, learning about life
cycles, plants and where food comes from. The Science focus
is more about senses and how humans and animals use
these to stay alive. We will also have rabbits for four weeks
in our Prep classes so we can use this opportunity to learn
how to care for a class pet and watch how animals grow and
develop. Each Prep class will have the rabbits for four days
each and continue to visit the rabbits weekly to watch their
growth.
The History focus this term is continuing to look at ‘Personal
and Family History’. We will be looking at the past and
present and how families go about tracking and
documenting this historical experience over time.
Welcome back to Term 3. We all had a very fun day on Wednesday 15th July when the
Prep’s went on their first excursion to Chesterfield Farm. At the farm, they went on a
tractor ride around the farm to see all the different animals. They were able to pet the
baby animals, feed animals, milk a cow, watch the sheepdog Bridget round up sheep as
they learnt about the importance of farms. The Prep’s had a fantastic day! A big thank
you to the Parent Helpers who came along to assist us on the day.
Musical:
We have already started practising the Prep Musical and you
are sure to hear some singing or dancing at home. Prep K
and Prep D will perform the musical together. Prep H, Prep
M and Prep F will perform together.
Friday 24th April - ANZAC Day
Prep C made poppies with the grade 5 buddies and
enjoyed the special ANZAC Day assembly.
Wednesday 29th April - P Day
Prep K is dressed up in the Pyjamas and enjoyed
eating popcorn whilst watching a P Movie.
Tuesday 19th May - Fire fighters Visit #2
Prep H loved having the fire fighters come to
school with their fire truck and being able to spray
the hose!
Wednesday 24th June - Letter Dress Up Day
Prep M enjoyed dressing up as something beginning
with their favourite letter.
Friday 19th June - Ambulance
Victoria Incursion
Prep F loved the Ambulance Visit
where they got to explore the
ambulance and two special children
made the ambulance siren go.
