Architecture is largely perceived as an expression of an idea or a concept. But it’s manifestation is rooted in the realities of construction and nature of materials. What better way to understand this negotiation between the ‘idea’ and ‘reality’ than to take an unbuilt project still at its conceptual stage, and detail it out as a design project. The project takes Louis Kahn’s Meeting House and translocates it to the current setting, in the process, negotiating between

conception and construction.

A PLACE FOR WATERSEMESTER III | 2017

Water remains ambiguous before a human intervention aligns it through a creative story as seen in the evocative architecture of the desert regions of India. This project tries to investigate the potential of revisiting these spaces in the contemporary context. It attempts to introduce new urban institution

with its relationship to water as its focus.

THE FICTION OF LANDSCAPE

SEMESTER IV | 2018

The design approach in this studio was highly inspired by the existing landscapes of two very contrasting sites. From designing a guesthouse for astronomers on the rocky and undulating terrains of Udaipur, to designing a guesthouse for scientists on the heavily wooded flat land of Kamatibaug, Baroda. The final outcome is a result of a process of imagining and developing a

design in response to landscape.

A PLACE FOR LOVERS OF ART

SEMESTER II | 2017

The project brief was to design a cafe and exhibition space for artists on a barren land on the outskirts of ahmedabad. This project developed through a concept of constellations interpreted as many pauses in a journey. Each star in a constellation is interpreted a pause point in the journey of a line, without disturbing the existing context.

VISUALISING ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS OF HISTORIC BUILD FORMS

DURGA TEMPLE, AIHOLE

The idea is to protect the living and work space by adding multiple layers of protection and making a single sustainable unit which is simply multiplied to form a colony. Developing a form by keeping surrounding calamities in mind, this structure is like a boat placed upside down. This form helps cut down the strong wind and prevent the structure from collapsing. It’s a portable structure, is easy to carry to mars and it’s also easy to be erected by 5 scientists. It is a cage like structure which is covered with fabrics in two layers both above and below the trusses. Whenever inner pressure increases, inner fabric layer expands and blows like a balloon but the skin doesn’t break. The multiple layers protect the life from harmful radiation, dust, strong winds, etc and maintain livable atmosphere for

organisms inside.
