Termly Review

Term 2: December 2017

What a fabulous term we have had continuing with Marvellous Me! It’s

been an extremely busy and exciting half term. The children absolutely

loved having their parents in for Build a Guy! Thank you again to mums,

dads and granddads who came to help!

Our Marvellous Middle has been ongoing with lots of parents coming into

school and sharing wonderful stories, resources and artefacts with the

children. Thank you again to all the parents for your time and effort!

We enjoyed filling our treasure jar this term! As a democratic class, we voted

on what activity we would like to do as our reward and chose party games!

Pass the parcel was lots of fun!

Our Fabulous Finish ended on a rainy day doing tours of landmarks around

Speldhurst and some community minded activities including creating your own

road sign.

I’m sure you’ll agree that the children did at

incredible job at putting together their dances

for Lights, Camel, Action. What beautiful singing

and dancing from all of them—well done!

Year 1

In English, Year 1 children have been sequencing and writing

stories, most recently coming with their own ending to the story

‘One Snowy Night’. They have also written some stunning

fireworks poetry! In Maths, Year 1 have been primarily learning

about place value (adding and subtracting within 100) and

money. In phonics, they have been learning the sounds oo, or,

ar, air, ir and ou.

Reception

In phonics, Reception have learned up to ’f’ and we are getting

really good at segmenting and blending words. We have enjoyed

doing some guided reading on the IWB and sorting words into

real and nonsense. We have also learnt the naughty red words

I, to, go and no. We will focus more on writing these as the year progresses. All the children are now

familiar to our school routine often remembering to get their green reading logs on Mondays, Tuesdays

and Fridays. We have looked at healthy eating and we opened up a smoothie shop, creating our own

smoothies and even cutting and blending one in the classroom!

I hope you all have a brilliant Christmas holiday and enjoy all the festivities!

Thank you for all your continued support and I look forward to recovering

quickly and being back in Pippin class on Tuesday 23rd

January!
