DESCRIPTION

The PerFedPat system is a federated patent search system based on ezDL [18], [19] a system for developing interactive search applications. Patent Search

The patent search problem is highly representative of tomorrow's

search.

Multilingual, Multiple Sources Distributed all over the Internet

High value documents (organized in hierarchies, structured,

interlinked)

lengthy search sessions

Different types of information needs not very common in everyday

search

Need for multiple search tools and UIs

PerFedPat architecture and component overview

3

Inspired mainly by Yahoo Pipes

Based on ezDL

Three patent datasets already supported

More patent datasets are planned

EPO Espacenet

Google Patent Search

US Patent Full-Text and Full-Page Image Databases

Intellectual Property digital library of WIPO

CLEF-IP

MAREC

But many other data sources

These information sources can be free access patent

databases which are searchable though the web,

dynamically updated patent related data streams

such as RSS feeds,

patent related content behind pay-for-use turnstiles,

or

finally any other web resource that can be accessed

online (e.g. Non patent literature from scientific

digital libraries)

Query system enhanced to support patent search

Two Search tools (clustering of search results and

entity mining) have been integrated as tools

Modifications to adapt search process to patent search (for

example fusing of similar results is usually not desirable)

- MORE TOOLS WILL BE INTEGRATED

- ALSO ADAPTATIONS OF EXISTING

ALGORITHMS FOR SOURCE

SELECTION & RESULTS MERGING
