Chapter 1. About keys and keyboards
The layout of a keyboard determines the characters produced when you press thekeyboard keys.
Table 1 on page 3 contains information about which keyboards are supported.
The keyboard layouts displayed in this book are for 101, 102, 104, 105, and106-key enhanced keyboards. The position of keys might vary somewhat on otherkeyboards.
Non-Escaping characters (Dead keys)
Keys with a gray square under the character represent a dead key or anon-escaping key. Use the Dead Keys to form composite characters. For example,to produce é on a Brazil BR275 keyboard, type the accent u key, then type theletter e key. In many cases, there is no output from pressing just the dead key.
More than one character on a keytop
You can use key combinations to produce a character.
Each key can produce up to four characters, but some of the characters requirethat you press a combination of two keys. For example, to produce the $ characteron a US103 keyboard, hold down the shift key while pressing the 4 key .
The upper-right character is used only by the Japanese JP194 and the Russiankeyboards, RU441 and RU443. The key combinations are customized for eachkeyboard:
v AltGr+character key for the Russian keyboards
v Hiragana+character key for the Japanese Keyboard
To produce the lower-left character, press the character key . You do not need topress a combination of keys.
To produce the upper-left character, hold down the shift key and press thecharacter key .
To produce the lower-right character, hold down the AltGr and press thecharacter key .
Changing the default keyboard
When you install OS/2 Warp Server for e-business, the keyboard is selected earlyin the install. The default selection is based on the keyboard selected in theconfig.sys on the install diskettes..
Some countries have more than one keyboard. For example, Italy has twokeyboards. Italy IT indicates the default layout; Italy extended IT142 is thealternative layout. Alternative keyboard codes are listed in Table 1 on page 3.

Chapter 3. Keyboard layouts 25
Chapter 4. Codepages
Every country and language supported by your operating system has a locale andcountry code.
For each country code, the operating system provides a primary codepage andsome have one or more secondary codepages. The codepages determine howcharacters are encoded.
The codepage tables that follow contain the hexadecimal values (numbers) for eachalphanumeric and graphic character that can be produced with each codepage.
Each codepage has a layout consisting of a grid of characters that can be producedusing that particular codepage. This grid is used to determine the hexadecimalvalue that represents the corresponding character on the codepage.
To find the hexadecimal value, use the row along the left side and the columnacross the top of the codepage. The first digit of the hexadecimal value is the rownumber and the second digit is the column number. For example, in codepage 850,the character K has the hexadecimal value of 4B.
To display the characters of the codepage, use the decimal value of thehexadecimal number. Refer to Table 2 to convert a hexadecimal value to decimal. For example, the hexadecimal value for character K in codepage 850 is 4B. To findthe decimal equivalent of 4B, find row 4 along the left side of the chart, then followit across until you reach column B. The cell where row 4 and column B meetcontains the number 75, which is the decimal value of 4B.

The K character is displayed. You can press and release the Num Lock key if youdo not want the keyboard to remain in Num Lock mode.
Setting the Locale
A system locale defines a user’s environment. The locale specifies how the systemhandles formatting, conversion, sorting, and text processing procedures.
When you install OS/2 Warp Server for e-business, the SET LANG andCODEPAGE statements are created in the CONFIG.SYS file. For example, if theUnited States country code 001 was specified when OS/2 was installed, theCONFIG.SYS file would contain the following statements:set lang=en_uscodepage=850
You can change the system locale by changing the SET LANG statement in theCONFIG.SYS file. For example, to change the locale of the above example to thelocale of Great Britain, edit the SET LANG statement to read:set lang=en_GB
Existing applications that use the COUNTRY command are also supported.
Changing Codepages
The codepages that the system uses is controlled by the CODEPAGE statement inthe CONFIG.SYS file. This statement, along with the SET LANG statement, determines which codepages (primary and secondary) are permanently ortemporarily in use by your system.
You can temporarily change to an alternate codepage by using the CHCP commandfrom an OS/2 command prompt.
For example, to switch from codepage 850 to 1004 for the current session, type thefollowing at an OS/2 command prompt:chcp 1004
If you want to permanently change your default codepage, you can change theCODEPAGE statement in your CONFIG.SYS file.
Whenever you change your default codepage, you must restart your system for thechange to become effective. Use the shutdown procedure to restart your system.
Table 7 on page 36 lists the codepages for the various countries and languages.
For more information about the SET LANG, CODEPAGE, COUNTRY, and CHCPcommands, see the online Command Reference.
28 OS/2 Warp Server for e-business: Keyboards and Codepages
Codepages
All codepages listed in Table 3 can be used as converters in the Unicode system. The codepages marked in the table can be used as process codepages andPresentation Manager codepages.
A codepage can be used as a process codepage only if it matches the selectedcountry as specified in the COUNTRY.SYS file. See Table 7 on page 36.
You may not have all of these codepages installed on your workstation. Inparticular, some of the DBCS codepages are only available on DBCS systems.
These are the commonly used codepages in OS/2.
Codepages are supported in base OS/2, Presentation Manager and Unicodeconversions. All codepages supported by the base are supported by PresentationManager, and all codepages supported by Presentation Manager are supported inUnicode.
Base OS/2 supports PC ASCII codepages. Presentation Manager adds support forISO, Windows, and EBCDIC codepages. Unicode adds support for codepageswhich are used only for data conversion.
East Asian codepages are mixed single byte/double byte where the first characterdefines if there is an additional byte. There are also codepages defined for theindividual single byte codepage and double byte codepages. These can also beused as PM and Unicode codepages.
OS/2 codepage numbers normally match the IBM Coded Character Set IDs(CCSID). In a few cases, OS/2 has retained the original codepage number of theoriginal definition to minimize changes to applications.

Notes:
1. The IBM registered codepage number was changed because one or morecharacters were removed when the Euro sign was added. OS/2 uses theoriginal codepage number.
2. The EBCDIC codepages containing the Euro are the same as the previousCECP codepages except that the International Currency Symbol was replacedby the Euro Sign. Both the old and the new codepage are available toPresentation Manager programs.
OS/2 Warp Unicode Codepages
Codepage 1200 is Unicode UCS-2. This is a two byte little endian representation ofthe unicode character set. This is the form of Unicode used for internal processing, but it cannot be used in many cases since it includes embedded zero bytes whichare often treated as end of string marks.
Codepage 1208 is Unicode UTF-8. This is a one to three byte standard interchangeformat. This can be used when null terminated strings are required, but it cannot behandled by code which does not accept three byte characters.
Codepage 1207 is an internal unicode representation which encodes all of unicodeexcept the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean ranges in a one or two byterepresentation which can be used as an OS/2 DBCS codepage. This should not beused for interchange as it is non-standard.

New Support in OS/2 Warp Server for e-business
OS/2 Warp Server for e-business adds new codepage support. Many of thesechanges are available in FixPaks for previous releases.
Unicode
Three Unicode codepages are supported (1200, 1207, and 1208).
Euro Codepages
The Euro sign has been added to a number of codepages. When possible, thischaracter was added in a non-used position. When necessary, a character wasremoved from the codepage to make room for the Euro. In most cases, theremoved character was the International Monetary Symbol. In codepage 850, thedotless-i was removed. In codepage 862 (Hebrew), both the Euro and Shequelwere added.
Latin 9
Latin 9 is the new ISO-8859–15 character set. This is similar to ISO-8859–1 (Latin1), but removes the fractions and several accent marks. It adds in support for oe,OE, scaron, Scaron, zcaron, Zcaron, Ydiereis, and Euro.
The following codepages represent the Latin 9 character set:
859 PC Latin 9
923 ISO Latin 9 (ISO-8859–15)
924 Latin 9 EBCDIC
Codepage 859 can be used as a base codepage with the US, French, Belgium,Canadian French, and Finnish country code and keyboard. However, manyapplications do not recognize this codepage.
Asian Codepages
A full set of Asian codepages is included in all versions of OS/2. This includes manyDBCS codepages for Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan. The component codepagesare also supported.
Chapter 4. Codepages 33
Default Alias Table
The OS/2 Warp Unicode conversion logic allows a number of aliases for IBMcodepage names. These aliases are contained in the file\language\codepage\ucstbl.1st
on the boot drive. The first column is the alias, and the second column representsthe IBM codepage where it is defined.
Notes:
1. All codepage names must be ASCII-7 alphanumeric.
2. Hyphens are ignored in both alias and actual name.
3. OS/2 searches this code table case independent.

Locales and Codepages
Table 7 on page 36 shows which countries and codepages can be used together bylocale. The primary codepage for a specified country is listed in the PC column. Thealternate codepage is listed in the Alt column. Some of the countries do not havealternate codepages.
Many countries allow other codepages to be used in addition to the primary andalternate codepages. These additional codepages are not set by the installationprocess.
Countries that use Latin script can utilize codepage 1004, which has the samecharacters as the Latin Windows codepage. The codepage 850 can be specified forall countries but can cause unexpected results when used in languages that do notuse the Latin script.
The Windows codepages cannot be used in the CODEPAGE command inCONFIG.SYS but are available for use with Presentation Manager.
