Sacramento topped by 'Topes in Parker's return
Beede touched up for seven runs, offense can't keep pace in 11-6 defeat
The Sacramento River Cats (27-42) put up five runs over the first three innings but could not
sustain the production Monday Night at Raley Field in their 11-6 loss to the Albuquerque
Isotopes (35-35).
Sacramento opened things up early, pushing four runs across in the third frame thanks to an
RBI-double by Jarrett Parker that was inches from clearing the fence. One batter later, Mac
Williamsonlaunched a two-run home run to straightaway centerfield bringing Parker in to
score.
Starter Tyler Beede made it through four frames relatively unharmed, allowing three runs on
five hits while racking up four strike outs. Things unraveled in the fifth however, as Beede
allowed four runs on five hits in the inning. Of the right-hander's 10 hits surrendered tonight,
eight went for extra bases. Left-hander Matt Reynolds was responsible for the other four runs
after allowing just five runs in his previous 13 home outings. The River Cats pitching staff
allowed a season-high 16 hits on the night and matched a franchise-high by conceding eight
doubles.
For game three tomorrow night Sacramento will send right-hander Chris Stratton (2-4, 6.02) to
the hill. Albuquerque will counter with left Ryan Carpenter (3-5, 5.37). First pitch is set for 7:05
p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320.
Postgame Notes
Tough Night Out: Tyler Beede gave up seven earned runs for a second consecutive start…he has
now thrown the fifth most innings in the PCL (78.1)…saw his home ERA jump from 2.88 to
4.19…in three June starts, is now 0-2 with a 8.87 ERA (23.1 IP, 23 ER).
Parker's Return: Jarrett Parker made his first start tonight since breaking his collarbone on April
15…went 1-for-3 with an RBI-double and two strikeouts…made his 113th
minor league start in
centerfield…has made one Major League start in center…hit .273 with 16 home runs and 35 RBI
with the River Cats last season.
Gillaspie's Three: First baseman Conor Gillaspie registered his first three-hit game with
Sacramento tonight…collected three of the team's eight hits on the night…also scored a run and
knocked in his third RBI with the club…improved his average to .289.
Early showers: Catcher Tim Federowicz and manager Dave Brundage were both ejected in the
eighth inning for arguing balls and strikes…it was Brundage's fourth time being tossed and
Federowicz's first of the season.
