Old Bibles and Antique Chairs

Someone once said that the reason many antique chairs are uncomfortable is because all the comfortable chairs wore out long ago.

Like antique chairs that are still in good shape, old Bibles that have survived the years in good condition probably haven’t gotten much use.

A bible that is falling apart is usually owned by someone who isn’t.

Let’s wear out our Bibles…By using them to get our lessons for

Bible classes.“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” -- 2 Timothy 2:15

Let’s wear out our Bibles…By reading our Bibles late at night.

“My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word.”

Psa. 119:148

Let’s wear out our Bibles…

By discussing Scripture over meals or anytime during the day.

But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”

-- Luke 4:4

Let’s wear out our Bibles…

By using them to find comfort when we are afflicted.

This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has

given me life. -- Psalm 119:50

Let’s wear out our Bibles…By discussing the Scriptures with friends.

“My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness.” -- Psalm 119:172

Let’s wear out our Bibles…By using them to verify what the preacher says.

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” -- Acts 17:11

Let’s wear out our Bibles…

As we would an old comfortable recliner, with constant use!

Let us seek the “comfort of the Scriptures.”

Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.

-- Psalm 119:97
