Course Director: Mr Jaf Abu
Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon and Oncologist Course overview This is a two-day course aimed at the consultant gynaecological oncologist or general gynaecologist interested in being able to perform total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH), laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy and laparoscopic omentectomy. Delegates will also be showed various tips and tricks plus TLH for the morbidly obese women. Day 1: Lectures, video presentations, practical training for TLH in the cadaver (delegates performing procedure), equipment demonstrations and laparoscopic intra-corporeal suture workshop. Day 2: In-theatre training, during which delegates will be physically present in the theatre, watch live procedures and learn theatre set up for TLH. This will be as interactive as possible. The aim of the course: By the end of the course, delegates should be competent to independently perform total laparoscopic hysterectomy as well as able to close the vaginal vault laparoscopically. Delegates are advised to book TLH cases at their base hospitals prior to attending the course. This way they can immediately carry out TLH upon their return whilst still fresh from attending the course. Delegates will also be showed pelvic sidewall dissection, mobilising the ureters, pelvic lymphadenectomy and laparoscopic omentectomy. Various tips and tricks will be taught including TLH in the morbidly obese patients with endometrial cancer diagnosis, fibroids and previous abdominal surgeries (including previous caesarean sections). Efforts will be made to select a variety of cases for the course although this may also be influenced by the surgical needs at the time. Programme outline
