Model Merging >> Concept

Major Challenge: database-updating requirement imposed by the fast growth of the CSG grid.

Capability of supporting frequent on-line database changes and power-system model updates.

Each of the provincial control center is responsible to update the data of its own EMS on a daily basis.

Conceptually, the full power system model for the entire CSG grid, used in the CSG-EMS, is a merged model of the five individual province-EMS’s models, with the boundary areas among the provinces properly represented and adjusted.

Model Merging >> Result

Models exported from Province-EMS in CIM-XML format, together with exports of related display files in SVG format, as well as SCADA measurement-point definitions in ICCPdescription file.

Real-time data and displays from Province-EMS are kept up-to-date through ICCP link and SVG re-link.

The merged full model covers all the 500kV and 220kV devices in CSG grid. And it can be updated whenever there is a change in one or more Province-EMSs.

EMS analytical results become much more accurate. Besides, the full model could be shared with the province.

Relative voltages of different buses by contour lines.

Historical Data Recording and Recalling

Using a PI system, all 500kV and 220kV data, as well as PMU data are being recorded continuously.

Instead of event-drive or PDR, but a holographic storage of the historical data.

The historical data can be recalled through displays at any later time.

Conclusion

The new Energy Management System for the China Southern Grid is a state-of-art system.

Several of its functional capabilities are pace-setting in China, and are comparable in the world.

Successful experience of applying CIM and SVG standards to exchange models and displays for a large power system.

CSG-EMS has been installed and put into operation in the CSG control center in Guangzhou, China.
