WP6 – Status and plan: objectives
NEFIS Meeting, Vienna, May 24-25, 2004
NEFIS is presented as an activity in which JRC is collaborating
NEFIS is closely related to other JRC activities in INFOREST
• Forest Focus regulation (2152/2003)• Atmospheric Pollution on forests • Forest Fires• Biodiversity• Climate change & carbon sequestration• Soils• Protective function of the forest
Need to integrate activities from other partners
1. To promote awareness amongst forest community and other data users
NEFIS Meeting, Vienna, May 24-25, 2004
Continous contact with DG ENV regarding Forest Focus
• JRC is Scientific Coordination Body of Forest Focus• JRC is in charge of establishing a Forest Focus Data Platform
Data management Data analysis and reporting Data access to EU, EEA, and ICP Data access to researchers and general public
• JRC is in charge of the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS)
Continuous contact with DG AGRI regarding the follow-up of EFICS
• Specifications for a European Forest Information and Communication Platform (EFICP) as follow up of EFICS
Contact with RTD to be developed
2. Inform DG AGRI, DG ENV, and DG RTD of NEFIS developments3. Ensure NEFIS evolves in accordance with on-going and future forest policies4. To act as S&T link between Commission services and NEFIS
NEFIS Meeting, Vienna, May 24-25, 2004
Contact with ENFIN (European National Forest Inventory Network)
Coordination with Community networks:
• Forest Focus data platform
Collection of data on effects of atmospheric pollution in forest
• European Forest Fire Information System
Collection of forest fire event data from MS
Provision of forest fire risk forecast
Provision of maps of forest fire damages (fires>50 ha)
Contact with UN-ECE/FAO/EC for harmonized forest information collection schemes
5. Ensure that NEFIS evolves in an integrated manner with other Community
Networks.
NEFIS Meeting, Vienna, May 24-25, 2004
1. Preparation of a demonstration package
2. Organization of a symposium (foreseen June/July 2005)
3. Final publication including guidelines
