Learning Objectives

To identify conventions and explore how they are used in a range of Media texts.

Success Criteria

Create a piece of writing where a variety of visual and audio conventions have been identified always using their professional names.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

A convincing analysis that explains the explicit and implicit meanings behind what we see or hear in great detail. Effective Media language explains meanings or describes conventions and is used with complete accuracy. A variety of visual and audio conventions

have been identified always using their professional names.

(Level 6)

A quality analysis that explains the explicit meanings behind what we see or hear in detail. Confident Media language explains meanings or describes conventions and is used with accuracy. Several visual and audio conventions have been identified mainly using their

professional names.

(Level 5)

A solid analysis that explains some of the meanings behind what we see or hear. Solid Media language attempts to explain meaning or describe conventions and is used with some accuracy. Some visual or audio conventions have been identified occasionally using their

Starter Activity

Audio conventions are things you always hear.

Re-create the 3 information boxes above in your student workbook using shapes, images and text.

A visual convention is something you always typically see in either moving image such as a film trailer or a motif like a poster.

Place the poster into the middle of your next workbook page, using text boxes and arrows to

label the conventions you see.

Find a film poster of your choice and look at the following visual conventions.

An audio convention is something you always typically hear in moving image such as a film trailer, music video or television advert.

Audio Conventions

Find three images from the film trailer and place them at the top of your next workbook page. Then create 3 text boxes to write in.
