To give a fresh / new perspective on familiar topics

To provide a review on drugs for students at a key time in their lives

To utilize an interactive brain website and teach more in depth about addiction

Lesson 1: Addiction Webquest

Intro Scenario:

“Suppose you have a friend who you believe is struggling with an addiction. You want to be supportive and helpful to your friend, but your knowledge on addiction is limited. You have tried to express your concerns to your friend, but he/she seems un-open to change. This webquest is designed to help you learn more about addiction and your end goal in completing it is to decide upon a plan of action you can take to help your friend.”

Lesson 1: Addiction Webquest

Tasks: packet completion, cell phone screen, blog entries

Process: reading/completing activities at 4 websites

Drug PSA Criteria

1. drug names (both common name(s) and street name(s)

2. forms, category, and how it’s taken

3. at least 2 other drugs within this category or class

4. short-term effects

5. long-term effects

6. risk of dependency

7. prevalence

8. two other items of groups’ choice that the group finds interesting

Conclusion

Already used earlier versions of both of these lessons

In-depth analysis helped me to make improvements / recognize areas that still need improvement

Eager to try newly modified versions of these lessons!

Eager to learn about innovations used by classmates!
