What’s going on when there’s a Lunar Eclipse.

There can only be a lunar eclipse when the moon is full. The suns light is not reflecting off of the moon like usual. The sun, earth and moon all aligned and the light warped through earths atmosphere gives the moon that copper or “blood moon” effect.

The Stages of a Lunar Eclipse!!!!

Total Eclipse(Blood Moon)

Selenelion or Selenehelion

Historic moments using Lunar Eclipses

On Christopher Columbus’s fourth voyage, he ended up in Jamaica. His hosts were becoming weary of him, he predicted the loss of the moon. When it happened they begged and pleaded him to bring it back… which he did.

During the Peloponnesian War in 413B.C. the Athenians saw the lunar eclipse as a bad sign so they retreated. This was a large contributor to the fall of Greece.

Fun facts

There can only be three lunar eclipses in one year.

The world will not end, contrary to prior belief.

These eclipses last up to three to four hours, unlike solar eclipses

Lunar eclipses are visible from a whole hemisphere, unlike solar eclipses.

Lunar eclipses are visible from the moon as well.
