Scripture : Eccles. 3:2-6.12-14
Psalm 127
R. O blessed are those who fear the Lord
and walk in his ways!
O blessed are those who fear the Lord
and walk in his ways!
By the labour of your hands you shall eat.
You will be happy and prosper.
Your wife like a fruitful vine
in the heart of your house:
Your children like shoots of the olive,
around your table.
Indeed thus shall be blessed
the man who fear the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion
all the days of your life.

New Year Reflection
We have reached the end of another year. Whilst the media offers its commentaries for the annals of history and the speculations for the year ahead, I find myself reflecting over the past year and giving thanks for the blessings that have been given to me in that period and I look forward with a sense of longing and insecurity; longing for more blessings to come my way in the next twelve months, and insecurity about the uncertainties that plague us in not knowing what lies ahead.
Mixed feelings are normal this time of year. They spur us on to make ‘New Year Resolutions’ to help ensure next year is greater. The only problem is that we find our resolutions are easily broken and nothing seems to change. If this is case then maybe our resolutions are misguided. Maybe we are cutting at the branches without healing the root. The art of discerning the way forward in all things finds its emphasis in one question “Will this draw me closer to Christ or pull me away from him?” After all it’s no good in resolving to go to the gym if that ‘gym time’ means less ‘prayer time’. Christ is at the centre of everything and all things find harmony in him. So maybe we should have only one resolution as we start the new year:
“to see thee more clearly, love thee more
dearly, follow thee more nearly, day by day”.
Many blessings to you and those who you love in 2018.

A New Year Reminder. The New Year can often bring a mixed bag of emotions and memories for many of us. Some may have just experienced the best year ever and look forward to an even greater one looming ahead. Others may have just trudged through one deep struggle after another. The fresh calendar year brings desperate hope for things to be better, with an ache for the still-fresh wounds to slowly begin their process of healing. Whether you’ve just walked through the greatest year of your life, or are incredibly glad to see this one finally over, one truth still rings clear amidst it all. You are not alone. Not ever. Our God is a “with us" God. On the heels of the celebration of the birth of our King, that reminder has the power to carry us right into a fresh, new start. He is Immanuel, God with us. And though things and people around us shift and change, our God never changes.

Prayer for the Feast of the Holy Family
Let us pray
[as the family of God who share in his life] Father in heaven, creator of all, you ordered the earth to bring forth life, and crowned its goodness by creating the family of man. In history's moment when all was ready You sent your Son to dwell in time, obedient to the laws of life in our world. Teach us the sanctity of human love, show us the value of family life, and help us to live in peace with all men that we may share in your life forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

earned rest and thus leaving Father
