Today’s libraries are not just about what we have for people, but what we do for and with people.

Libraries are challenged by the same trends impacting the global society.

Libraries to meet the needs of the changingneeds and desires of their communities

National Information on Libraries

A majority of Americans feel libraries are doing a good job of providing a safe place for people to hang out or spend time.

69% feel libraries contribute “a lot” to their communities

58% feel libraries open up educational opportunities for people of all ages

Libraries need to listen and learn from the community.

What are the goals, desires, and issues in the community?

How can libraries help the community reach theirgoals or be part of the solution to issues?

Libraries Transforming Communities (LTC)Libraries Transforming Communities (LTC) is an ALA initiative that seeks to strengthen libraries’ roles as core community leaders and change‐agents. The initiative is made possible through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

After hosting several open community discussions, HPL staff discerned that its users’ chief concerns included “public safety, community violence, and their relationship with the police” (Marcotte).

It then responded to this clear need by hosting a series of three open dialogues between the police and Hartford residents of all ages.http://publiclibrariesonline.org/2015/10/community‐connections‐at‐the‐library/

Crucial to get community input on transforming space

Transforming SpacesUC Davis has a bold vision to build a library without limits: a large‐scale, ambitiousreimagining and renovation …Beyond its physical space, the library will create a leading‐edge digital platform for knowledge creation, management and sharing by the university’s research community.

Revolutionizing the  library will  create the  conditions for success for our students and faculty… https://www.library.ucdavis.edu/wp‐content/uploads/2017/09/Library‐for‐the‐21st‐Century_November‐2016.pdf

“UC Berkeley's newly remodeled undergraduate library is modern and sleek, with its top two floors featuring low‐slung couches, a futuristic nap pod, and meeting spaces with glass walls made to be written on and colorful furniture meant to be moved.”

Just what is the Ozarkansas Tool Library? This is a library that offers tools useful for gardening, farming, and basic construction tasks. It operates just like a traditional library, lending out, for free, a wide variety of implements to residents in our community.

How do I use the Ozarkansas Tool Library?Anyone with a Fayetteville Public Library card has free access to the Ozarkansas Tool Library as well. Simply go to the Fayetteville Public Library to check out a tool. The library has a tool catalog available to look through, or you can look through the catalog online here.

Students examined the different themes presented in the story including personal growth, determination, and learning new skills. Through discussion, students identified the qualities of good collaborators and put them into play by working together to create a piece of artwork using a small robot called an ArtBot.

Increase awareness of and support for the transforming library.

Shift perception of libraries from “obsolete” or “nice to have” to essential.
