Just for everyone's information we have a film crew from the TV show OUR TOWNS in Kulin

For everyone involved with the Bush Races this is a very busy time of year but the happy

A recent citizenship ceremony at Council inspires this
comment. Much of what we are and whom we as a
society aspire to become in Australia is encapsulated in
the pledge taken to become a citizen.
Noel Mason
All the positive and joining societal
ambitions are wrapped in the simple
statements and declarations.
Yet modern society is in the process of
shifting the emphasis of citizenship to
self by attrition.
In the generation where SELF is built on
a Facebook profile, Twitter account or
images over Snapchat, the interactions
of where YOU have been, who YOU are
with, and what YOU are doing
dominates the physical sense of what
is important.
The message that GIVING is the
ultimate reward for the soul, wellbeing
and selfworth has been lost in the drive
to happiness, material possession and
selfactualisation. Frankly this confusion
is damaging.
I witnessed a whole lot of GIVING by
a wide range of community
volunteers at the busy bee to
prepare for the Bush Races on the
weekend and was staggered by their
level of personal commitment and
effort.
I wonder how many of these
selfless, community minded and
GIVING people raced home to post
a few selfies and updated their
status?
Seems to suggest an entirely
different selffocus – doesn’t it? I am
thankful for the spirit of GIVING that
exists still in the citizens of Kulin
Shire.
Well done to all the men, women
and children involved – I look
forward to a great weekend;
whatever the weather.

Kulin Child Care Centre HappeningsUnfortunately, we have to start our report once again with some very disappointing news. The centre has beenvandalised once again. After our last incident with the tadpoles, the vandal returned the following weekend to finishthe job, the tadpole tank was filled with sand and sunscreen, the remaining tadpoles suffocated to death. Then justthis last weekend the children were very upset to find their treasured Fairies, Gnomes, Mermaids and Teddies in ournew garden had been smashed and stolen, and foul language written on the outdoor chalkboard. To thechild/children that feel the need to destroy other people’s property be warned the Police have been contacted, anofficial Police report has been filed and the Police are investigating this matter. If a member of the public SPOTSanyone on the property, please contact Melina 0474 451 385 immediately or better still the Kulin Police. This sortof destructive behaviour will not be tolerated in our lovely town, let’s work together to find the culprits.
After a huge interest in our Fire Safety theme wedecided to visit our local Fire Station! Wow what a funafternoon had by all, including the Educators! We alllearnt something new, were amazed to learn about allthe equipment, the important role they play whenfighting a fire and the massive amount of water thatcomes out of the fire hose! Huge thank you to one ofour many local firefighters Mr Rob Doust, you are awealth of knowledge. Thanks for taking the time toeducate some aspiring Fire Fighters!!!
We have been learning about “Our Community” the last couple ofweeks. We have discussed what shops we have in Kulin and whatthey sell, what activities we take part in on the weekends, where inKulin or Kondinin we live and what, if any pets we have at our house. One of our Educators Ashley has been kind enough to let us pet shareher budgie ‘Bundy’, the children adore him. They love saying ‘GoodMorning’ to him when they arrive, making sure he has fresh water, food and a clean cage. The children brainstormed how to take goodcare of Bundy, some suggestions were ; “quiet voices so we don’tscare him”, “don’t put your finger in the cage or he will bite you” and“keep his cage clean so he doesn’t get sick” Clever children rightthere!!!We celebrated “Talk like a Pirate Day” all week last week, just to makesure no one missed out! The children had a great time making eyepatches, pirate hats and of course Treasure Chests! We had a greattime working together as a team to read the treasure maps to findsome hidden treasures in the yard.Don’t forget KCCC will be closed from EOB Friday 23rd December andwill re-open Monday 16th January 2017.Take care oxoxo

KULIN BUSH RACESThe Kulin Bush Races are only about 3
days away and we are looking for some extra“helpers” in the Main Kitchen. We are tryingto break down the areas in the main kitchenand get different people to run each area –
e.g. Friday tea, Saturday tea etc. We aremainly doing this to try and get more peopleinvolved but to also make each job smaller.
Each area would have a co-ordinator but thefood order and roster would be done withthe main kitchen. We currently do this forother food areas out of the kitchen and itworks really well – e.g. Hamburgers, Sugar
Shack, Fish and Chips etc.If you are interested and would like to join usin the Kitchen please give Anne-Marie (0427443109) or Tracey (0429 938822) a call.
