~ Are used in food additives, seaweed products: toothpastes, cosmetics and paints.

~ Many Protists are parasites and will live in or on other organisms

Live in Fresh water especially still waters

Have Pseudopods (“False Feet”) for locomotion or will use a flagellum/cilia

Feeds by engulfing food by wrapping pseudopods around particles

They use asexual reproduction and Sexually Sometimes you will find some protists that will have more than one cell!

Interactions in Ecosystems

Protists play a key role as producers and consumers i.e. Large green, red and brown algae (seaweed) produce energy in photosynthesis for aquatic ecosystems

with global warming if we lost protists like algae the aquatic food webs would become unbalanced.

Corals rely on a symbolic relationship with protists to help produce their food.
