Jim Gailloreto and Jazz StringQuintet are the new recipientsof the 2007 New Works:Creation & PresentationProgram grant from ChamberMusic America.

We will perform this new pieceat major venues in and outsideof Chicago.

THE GROUP: THE GROUP: THE GROUP:

Jazz String Quintet got its start in 1996 when composer and artistic director, Jim Gailloretoaccepted an invitation to compose and perform a work for soprano saxophone and stringquartet, for a Three Arts Club concert series. It their performance received critical acclaimfrom the Chicago Tribune. They have performed at the Cultural Center, The Jazz Institutes Jazz Fair, Columbia College,Roosevelt University, Alliance Française De Chicago and the 2005 International Associationof Jazz Educators Midwest convention. Gailloreto also was asked to compose and performan original piece for the Chicago Composer’s Collective premiered at Chicago’s very ownGreen Mill. THE MUSIC: THE MUSIC: THE MUSIC: THE MUSIC!:

Jazz String Quintet has a CD on The Naim Label featuring Blue Note recording artist KurtElling.

Their music pays homage to America’s greatest jazz legends such as Duke Ellington,Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter and many others. Each compositionreferences the improvisations on the recordings of these celebrated jazz artists.

Their sound is firmly rooted in jazz harmony, melody & rhythm and improvisation plays anintegral role in each concert.
