New Ways to Land a Job(Tips & Tricks for Success)

Kelley O’BrienWinston-Salem Jaycees

What Makes Me an Expert?

My story and path to job hunting in this economy

Over 10% of our workforce is without a job

We’re still on the path to recovery

Where to Start?Don’t panic

Take a deep breath

Tell the world you’re looking (if your unemployed)

If looking for an upgrade, tell those you trust

Take chances (not everyone posts a job online)

Update/upgrade your resume

Start hitting the pavement!

Know Who You Want to BeBefore you even start to work on your resume, figure out who you want to be.

My 1-year plan

My 5-year plan

Keep my same skill set, but switch industries

Go back to school

Strategies...Before you start searching, think...

I’m going to spend ____ hours searching per DAY/WEEK

If employed, I have ____ time for interviews and answering calls

Where am I willing to travel to for a new job?

Who do I know that can hire me?

ALWAYS act like your on a job interview

I’m willing to go for ____ much per hour/year

Your Resume

Make yours modern, up-to-date (find a template)

Keep it concise, but it’s OK to have two+ pages

Create an online, email (text only), and print ready version

Update it every six month, even when you get a job

Have your friends, family, former co-workers, or consultants review it
