James Fullarton is one of Scotland’s leading contemporarypainters and has been exhibiting at Thompson’s Gallery sincethe 1990s. Fullarton’s skilled fluid brushwork, broad palette andstrong colour mean he can be described as a modern dayColourist regarded for his consistently high quality of painting.

Born in Glasgow, Fullarton studied at the Glasgow School of Artfrom where he graduated in 1969. He has since worked as aprofessional artist based in South Ayrshire. He has exhibited atthe Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute ofFine Arts. Examples of his work can be found in private andcorporate collections worldwide.

Famed for his still-life, en-plain air landscape, harbour paintingsand as a skilled portrait artist it is safe to say Fullarton’s subjectmatter is varied.

In this wonderful exhibition of poppy still-lifes, summer andwinter Ayrshire landscapes, yachts and other typical Fullartonstudies, we see his interest in the effects of light. Prominentlarge brushstrokes applied vigorously to the canvas and directlyin front of the subject to create spontaneous, bright, expressiveworks revealing his personal interpretation of each subject.

It is Fullarton’s continued exploration and development of theseprinciples combined with a brill iant eye for colour anduncompromising standards of quality which bring us to this, hisseventh solo exhibition.

Thompson’s Gallery are delighted to welcome back JamesFullarton for his seventh solo exhibition and look forward topresenting his new works.
