JAMES 5 : 7 - 12• 12 But most of all, my brothers and

sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.

Jesus is saying, “Bring your burdens to me. Bring your load to me. Bring your weariness to me. Bring your frustration to me. You’re going to still need to

carry it, but I’m going to put a shoulder under it and I’m going to carry it with you, and we’ll yoke

together, that I will make this a lighter load for you. Not that I will lighten the load, but that I will carry a

portion of it alongside you.”

Matthew 11:28-30

• 28 Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

GUIDING

QUESTIONS IN

TIMES OF TROUBLE

1. HOW’S YOUR HEART?

• Our heart’s condition during difficult times is the primary concern of God.

Be patient.Establish your heart.

1. HOW TO ESTABLISHYOUR HEART

1. GET A LIGHTNING ROD

2. GET A RELEASE VALVE

• JESUS IS OUR LIGHTNING ROD & OUR RELEASE VALVE

James 5:7-8

• 7 Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.8 You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.

Get a lightning rodThis is somebody to talk to, a godly person who’s not trying to fix the

problem, but is just trying to ground out your storm.

Get a release valveThis is a godly means but not an excuse to releasing the pressure.

2. HOW ARE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS?

• James 5:9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.

• Being patient with one another

James 5:9

• 9 Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door!

GrumblingHow many of you find that your

patience decreases as your burden increases?

3. HOW’S YOUR STEADFASTNESS?

• Suffering and patience are two important ingredients

James 5:10-11

• 10 For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

James 5:10-11

• 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

The prophets, JobThere will be times and seasons where

you are suffering because you’re obeying. You’re marching in the direction that God

has for you, and that’s why opposition has come against you.

Persevere to see the Lord’s purpose: harvest of righteousness.

4. HOW’S YOUR MOUTH?

• James 5:12 But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

James 5:12

• 12 But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.

Once you’ve made a commitment, be steadfast in it. Therefore, be careful in the commitments you make. If you quit too early, you’ll

grieve deeply.

HE CARRIED A HEAVY BURDEN

• The Lord Jesus carried a heavy burden. Jesus was steadfast, Jesus was enduring, Jesus did not quit. And he went to the cross, and he ran his race, he kept his faith, he finished his mission.
