WELCOME TO PRODUCTION PRINTING

Production Printing: Why do we do what we do?

• The new methods of printing, using automation and technology as the primary tools, have become a mainstay discipline for over five hundred years.• Today, we still use many of the old ways of printing to distribute (and redistribute) information. • Though, we use more modern techniques and conveniences.• Production Printing Class is a year-long course

What are your responsibilities?• Completion of all classroom assignments•Maintenance of all Print Facilities• Print work for the entire Morton School District• Assembly of the KILN (product of the High School's Journalism Class)• Production of Homecoming T-shirts (Screen Printing)• Design/Assembly of the School Curriculum Guides• Design of the High School Student Handbook (for upcoming year)• Develop end-products for a variety of walk-in clients who request custom work to be provided

• Raster/Vector Designs for Digital or Print purposes

• Print

• Screen Print

• Dye/Sublimation

• Vinyl Graphics Assembly

Completion of all classroom assignments

• Logo Reconstructions (Illustrator)

•Mult-Color Shirt Screen Printing (Illustrator)• Single

• Multi-color

• Vinyl Graphics Application (Illustrator)

• Local “Ethnic Style” Menu Assembly (InDesign)

•Website Design/Construction (Illustrator, Photoshop, DreamWeaver)

• General Professionalism, Work Ethic, and Participation are considered an ongoing assignment. These do factor into your grade.

Maintenance of all Print Facilities• Screen Printing: Room cleanliness, supply inventory, resource maintenance, Safety Awareness

• Vinyl Graphics Assembly: Vinyl inventory, Tool/Table clean-up, scrap removal

• Dye/Sublimation: Heat Press awareness (Safety), supply inventory

• Laser/Ink-Jet printer: Inventory and Supply

• Paper Storage: Inventory and Proper Organization

Print work for the entire Morton School District

What is included as “Print work”Anything and Everything the district wants (as long as we are capable of producing it

• Business Envelopes

• Business Cards

• Posters (Sports and Events)

• T-Shirts and Screen Printed Items

• Tickets for Dances, Sporting Events, Dinners, etc.,

• Brochures and Pamphlets

• Programs for school plays, Graduation, and Awards Night

Assembly of the KILN• Page Layout of the school newspaper for proper text “flow”

• Incorporate photos and graphics

• Assemble into a Multi-Page PDF for digital distribution and/or printintg

Screen Printing: Homecoming,…and beyond.

Production Printing Class is responsible for designing the shirts

Production Printing Class is responsible for Printing the shirts.

Usually, we print between 500-1000 shirts for Homecoming

This years theme: Harry Potter

• We also screen print for other in-house clients (Interact, Orchestra, etc)

The School Curriculum GuidesA three color production

Black Red White

All Vector Based - This means it’s created in Illustrator (and only Illustrator)

Covers are printed on the Xerox Phaser 7760DN (Lazer) Printer

Actual pages are printed on Standard SD650 Digital Duplicator

The Student HandbookA full color production

Red, Green, Blue High resolution

Raster Image: Photoshop/Illustrator can be used.

Covers are printed off-site, from a professional Printer.

Vinyl Graphics ApplicationVector based graphics (Illustrator Only!)

Uses “Layers” for color effect

Creates a semi-permanent graphic (removable, with some elbow grease)

Vinyl is used for signs, graphics on automobiles, helmet graphics, window adornments, wall decals, etc.,

Everything else…We never know what is going to walk through our door. We don’t choose our clients – they choose us.

A job is a job, regardless of how “fun” or “interesting” we might perceive it.

Others are counting on us to do our best.

Usually, our work is seen by many, many people.

Those who view our work will probably fail to mention what we do right. But, they’ll never miss an opportunity to let us know where we went wrong.
