It is all right, because we a have each other.

From a young age, I’ve known

that my family was different.

Grandad did not walk, he laughed at things that were not funny, and he talked with a robot.

He did not always need a robot.

At first, he could walk , and talk and play just like you. He liked to play games, sing songs, and give lots of hugs to his family. Then one morn-ing he started to feel funny, he tripped lots, he lost his voice and his family noticed too.

At first they did not know what was wrong with him,

but it was all right, because they all had each other.

So they all went to the hospital, the whole family, the doctors werefriendly and took good care of him but even they could not find out why he was feeling funny, or how to fix him.

the whole family, the doctors werefriendly and took good care of him but even they could not find out why he was feeling funny, or how to fix him.

This made him feel sad, because he liked to know about things. He liked to be clever, though he had to wait,

but it was all right, because they all had each other.

The doctors kept busy trying to fix him, and one lovely afternoon they all shouted out ‘Eureka!!’. ‘We will make things to help you!

It was decided to make special bits for him so he would not trip, so that he could talk, and then he would be able to have lots of fun.

They gave him wheels to help his legs, and a talking robot to help his voice,

and it was all right, because they all had each other.

He was fixed!!

The wheels and talking robot did help him have fun, though the robot bits did not always work and help as much as they should.

Wheels got rusty, buttons needed oiling, and sometimes, even his robot broke,

but it was all right, because they all had

each other.

Robot

There were times when he felt that he was different, because he looked like a robot to people who did not know him, and they did not know where he came from first and what he used to look like.

but it was all right, because they all had

each other.

He knew that the robot bits helped him as well as they could, and that he was still him inside though sometimes, he really felt like a robot, a real-life robot, and it made him sad......

he missed his old legs and his old voice,

but it was all right, because they all had

each other.

You and I both know that we have each other, and that that is something to be happy about, though one day, we might not all be together.

... it is all right, because we all have each other,

in our hearts.

But no matter where we are in the world, whether in a different country, place, home or even up in heaven looking down on us all...........

...in our hearts.

My grandad has Motor Neurone Disease, which affects his speech, mobility and makes him dependent on machines and his family.
