Thursday, March 25, 19993:00 pm-5:00 pmPART \.-7 (C507) HOW TO PUT A QUAllTYIMPROVEMENT AND CREDENTIALS PROGRAMTO WORK FOR YOU

3:00 pmPrinciples of Quality ImprovementCurtis W. Bakal, MDCurtis Lewis, MDDavid Sacks, MDIn the current practice environment, interventionalradiologists face continued challenges in maintaining referral patterns and fighting predatory incursions from competing, and often less well trained, specialists. Developing a coherent program forquality improvement (QI) and procedure specificcredentialing is becoming an essential strategy formany practices in fighting such predatory behavior; conversely, not developing such a programmay prove catastrophic. In addition to protectingreferral patterns, QI guidelines can be utilized tomaintain high quality patient care and when requesting personnel and equipment resources. Registrants will learn how to set up a quality improvement and credentials program and apply publishedguidelines to their practice environment. Casestudies from real practice situations will be presented, and the nuts and bolts of developing a QIprogram will be discussed. Registrants will be encouraged to discuss problems, strategies, and solutions encountered in their practices.
