What are lead4ward Strategies?The lead4ward Instructional Strategies Playlists are designed to provide teachers with detailed descriptions of specific instructional strategies. The main purpose of this resource is to support educators in using an intentional planning process that includes delivering instruction that is aligned to the TEKS, promotes student engagement, and teaches for access, rigor, and transfer. Teachers use instructional strategies to:

● engage learners● provide practice without penalty● encourage interaction among students● see and hear students’ thinking

Movement and Discourse

Four CornersPURPOSE – Movement and Discourse: Allow students to move to a corner and then huddle with 2-3 people to

answer a question or practice a skill.

Think and ThrowPurpose - Movement and

Discourse: Analyze, summarize, defend, share, and evaluare a

response to a question.

Rehearsal and Practice

Tour of Knowledge PURPOSE – Rehearsal and Practice: Analyze various

stimuli/visuals or text passages aligned to important concepts.

Extending Thinking

Odd One OutPURPOSE – Extending

Thinking: Compare/contrast four visuals, assessment

questions, words, or texts to determine which is Odd One Out and justify your thinking.

Visual # 4 is the “odd one out” because it is not a conductor. Plastic is an

insulator and does not allow heat or electricity

to pass through.

Matching Double Trouble

Purpose - Extended Thinking: Make connections between

words, descriptions, and graphics/visuals

Although a template is available, you can use vocabulary resources from the curriculum or things you already have.

Learning from Mistakes

Make the CasePURPOSE – Learning from

Mistakes: Defend or prosecute answer choices as incorrect or

correct.

Rules of The Game

You the lawyer will be assigned to either group A/F, B/G, C/H,or D/J.

After reading the question with your group you will determine if you have the answer choice that is● Correct or “Innocent of a crime” you will

explain why the answer is correct.● Incorrect or “guilty of a crime” you will

explain why the answer is incorrect.

Each set of lawyers will have 1 minute to “make their case”

Get to the PointPurpose- Learning from mistakes:

Evaluate assessment items, select the three most difficult questions,

determine errors to avoid,words to remember, and how to start them for

the future.

Learning: Communicate your understanding of content by describing, sketching, and

summarizing what you learned.

One Minute PaperPurpose- Evidence of Learning:

Summarize your learning through a quick writing activity.

Tabletop Tweet

Read the article “Fighting Fake News” on page 14-17.

Fill out your evidence of learning tabletop tweet sheet.

When done share and retweet with a table partner by adding one more idea

from the article.
