Innovative ideas
flourish at the
intersection of
diverse experiences
whether it be
others’ or our own.”
“
Among
conceptual
combinations,
the most fertile
are often those
formed of
elements drawn
from fields that
are far apart.”
“
The great driver of
scientific and
technological innovation
[in the last 600 years has
been] the increase in our
ability to reach out and
exchange ideas with
other people, and to
borrow other people’s
hunches and combine
them with our hunches
and turn them into
something new.”
“
3 Key Networking
Strategies to Spark
Innovative Thinking
Regularly tap outside
experts for ideas
Attend idea-focused
networking events
Build a personal network of
creative confidants
The real voyage of
discovery consists not
in seeking new
landscapes, but in
having new eyes.”

Innovation
occurs at the
intersection
of invention
and insight.”
“
Most managers in
companies spend little
time watching people
to gain insights.”

Anthropologist role
is the “single
biggest source of
innovation.”
3 Key Experimenting
Strategies to Spark
Innovative Thinking

experiences
Take apart products,
processes, and ideas
Test ideas through
pilots and prototypes
Experiments are key
to innovation because
they rarely turn out as
you expect, and you
learn so much.
I encourage our
employees to go down
blind alleys and
experiment.”
