Orientation of TeachersDue to the advancement in science and technology , changing scenario in teaching learning process teachers have to equip themselves with current knowledge and latest information. So they need to visit the library often for abreast with recent developments in their concerned subject and others . This creates a effective teaching and healthy impression on students and encourages students to visit the library.

Celebration of Library week

• By celebrating National Book Week (14th to 21st November )students are exposed to the tremendous world of knowledge. Organizing book Exhibitions, Quiz on books & authors, Face to face interaction with eminent writers, Organizing visits to book fairs & hi-tech libraries.

• Mobile van Library of NBT&CBT• Organization of World Book Day .

( 23rd April)• all these activities will increase their thirst

for knowledge.

Open access library

Open access provides a close relationship between the reader & the read. The reader can easily browse through the books. While browsing, he can find many more titles of his interest, which increase his visits to the library .

PROJECT WORK METHOD

Students should be given more & more library oriented projects. Projects which requires full use of library resources like current periodicals, books, encyclopedias etc. By this students are exposed to the tremendous world of literature. Curiosity to know many more things is ignited in their mind which makes them a voracious readers.

Book review methodStudents may be asked to write book reviews for the books read from the library.The students who reads maximum number of books & variety of books may be awarded book review prize during the annual day celebration. This acts as an incentive & encourage the students to read more & more books.

Reading Corner/Hanging Libraries

The librarian should provide personal Assistance in locating a book or information. Librarian should have pleasing personality, Sense of humour, humble, soft spoken, co-Operative, always eager to help readers, active, Energitic, enthusiastic & love for books. All These qualities help the librarian in attracting More & more readers to the library.

The Eight Habits of Great Readers

• Predict• Visualize• Summarize• Make Connections (text to text, self,

Predict

Break up suspenseful short stories into sections. Students make predictions after each cliff-hanging section

Example: ‘’Bamboo Curry’’MARIGOLD, Class - V

Visualize

• Instead of asking students to draw pictures after reading text, show them a picture and ask them to write a story

Example: FLYING TOGETHER, MARIGOLD, CLASS- V

Summarize• Read aloud a text that only

the teacher has. Stop after each page and have students summarize what they just heard.

• Example: • My Elder Brother, Marigold,

Make Connections

• Choose a realistic novel or contemporary non-fiction piece and have students brainstorm connections.

• Example – Swami Vivekanand

Make Inferences

• This can be combined with a lesson on characterization. Have students make a list of judgments about a character, accompanied by the clues in the text.

• Example: A Family Apart, EVS

Question• Choose a text that is slightly

above your students reading level and have them stick post-it notes next to passages that they do not understand.

• Example: Guliver’s Travels

Use Prior Knowledge

• Choose a historical piece that relates to the time period they are studying in EVS. Have students apply that knowledge to their understanding of the novel.

• Example: Walls Tells Stories , EVS

Use Text Structure

• Choose a novel that uses multiple genres and have students identify and copy the genres in their own writing.
