In the following pages, the N

ature Trails running through Aragon are briefly described. Am

ong them, there are short trails such as those of

the Lanuza Reservoir, the Tarazonica, the Montfalcó-Congost de M

ont-Rebei, the River G

uadalaviar and the Val de Zafán Trails, among others,

or longer trails composed of several stages, such as the H

uesca Plains Trail and M

atarraña-Algars trails or the Ebro Trails, the GR footpath

GR-99.

Tarazonica Greenw

ay (Navarre, Zaragoza). The old railw

ay lines that joined Tarazona and Tudela (tw

o villages which w

ere an exam

ple of coexistance between A

rabs, Jews and C

hristians) though the Q

ueiles valley until 1972 has been turned into a 21.5 km

comfortable w

alk.

Lanuza Reservoir (H

uesca). This 3 km w

alk between Sallent

de Gállego and the Lanuza Reservoir D

am offers stunning m

o-num

ents, a rich biodiversity, ancient tradition, fine gastronomy

and the practice of sports at the heart of the Aragon Pyrenees.

Ped

ro Sapu

to (Hu

esca). The

ancient A

rab castle

of A

lmudévar is the starting point of this 26 km

route which

runs parallel to the Monegros C

anal and the Violada irriga-

tion canal; both infrastructures were built at the end of the

19th century and implied an econom

ic boost for this area.

Sierra de San Quílez (H

uesca). A 7.3 km

walk in the area su-

rrounding Binéfar, through holm oak w

oods, almond and olive

groves, vegetable patches and the Aragon and C

atalonia Canal

in 1909, over which the San Q

uílez shrine looms.

Sifón de Albelda (H

uesca). The com

missioning

of the

Aragon and C

atalonia Canal in 1909 brought an essential chan-

ge to agriculture in the area, leading to a change from dryland to

irrigation crops. This Natural Trail is slightly over 10 km

long and allow

s the visitor to appreciate this engineering works.

Castejón de M

onegros (Huesca). This N

ature Trail crosses a landscape dom

inated by the nearby Alcubierre Sierra This trail

is composed of tw

o short routes, the main attraction of both

being the fountains that provide water to this tow

n.

River G

uadalaviar (Teruel). This pleasant 4.1 km runs along the

River Guadalaviar canyon, an area betw

een the Arquillo Reservoir and the San Blas neighbourhood in Teruel w

here the sight of gol-den eagles, Egyptian vultures and griffon vultures is not uncom

mon.

Ojos N

egros (Teruel). This 49 km long N

ature Trail reclaims

part of the layout of the mining railw

ay of the Ojos N

egros mi-

nes. It starts in Santa Eulalia and passes through Cella and Teruel though the w

ide Jiloca valley and the Teruel plains.

Val de Zafán (Teruel). Three Nature Trails run along the ancient railw

ay line of the sam

e name: Val de Zafán, Terra Alta and Baix Ebre. The Val de

Zafán Natural Trail (35.9 km

) runs across the Matarraña County, w

hich is a m

elting point for cultural elements from

Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.

River Ebro G

R-99 (C

itoria, Rioja,

Navarre, Zaragoza, H

uesca, Lleida, Tarragona). For cen-turies, the Ebro valley has been occupied by m

any cultures, and proof of its rich cultural past rem

ains along its course. The Ebro river spans 1.280 km

from Reinosa to Tortosa, a long course

along which its natural and cultural richness m

ay be enjoyed.

Somontano de Barbastro (H

uesca). Rich with natural and cultural

heritage, the Somontano de Barbastro County, in the province of H

uesca, offers the possibility of enjoying stunning landscape and practising outdoors sport in the beautiful Sierra de G

uara mountain range. The 52

km of this N

atural Trail run almost entirely though this m

ountain range.

Hoya de H

uesca (Huesca). Starting in Bierge, and linking w

ith the nearby county of Som

ontano de Barbastro and the Nature Trail of

the same nam

e, this trail of 133 km (in 8 stages) allow

s the walker

to visit landmarks such as the Sierra de G

uara, the Salto de Roldán (Roland’s Jum

p), as well as the tow

ns of Riglos, Murillo and Agüero.

Montfalcó to M

ont-Rebei gorge (H

uesca, Lleida). This 4.1 km

trail for heights lovers allows the visitor to explore the spectacular li-

mestone orography of the Sierra del M

ontsec, on which the N

oguera Ribagorzana river has carved the narrow

Mont-Rebei gorge.

Loreto and the Canfranc Railw

ay Line, Canfranero (Huesca).

This walk around the city of H

uesca is formed by a 9.8 km

main course

and two deviations w

hich lead to the town of Alerre and to the Alberca

de Loreto pond, a beautiful natural scenery rich with w

ater birds.

Matarraña-A

lgars (Teruel, Zaragoza). This Nature Trail,

68 km long and divided into 6 stages, runs for the m

ost part in the M

atarraña, following the river of the sam

e name, and at

Valdertormo joins the Val de Zafán N

atural trail.

Agua Soriano. A

ntonino Route (Soria, Zaragoza, N

avarre). From

Tudela to Soria, this Nature Trail spans the distance betw

een the Ebro and D

ouro basins. A historical 113.5 km route w

hich leads us from

Celtiberians settlements though Rom

an remains and into

the Middle Ages, under the w

atchful eye of the Moncayo.

Tagus (Teruel,

Cuenca,

Guadalajara,

Madrid,

Toledo, C

áceres). A route stretching over m

ore than 1,000 km to

the Atlantic see and which runs along the longest river in the

Iberian Peninsula, from the M

ontes Universales, in the Sierra de

Albarracín, w

here its source is located, to Cáceres, w

here the ri-ver leaves Spain to continue its w

ay through Portugal to Lisbon.

Santander - Mediterraenan Sea (Zaragoza). This Trail (al-

most 15 km

long) is connected to the historical link between the

Cantabrian coast and the Mediterranean Sea. The centre of this trail

is the town of Calatayud, a historical m

elting point of the Jewish

and Baroque cultures, and which boasts an im

portant heritage,.
