Improve Health and Wellness with a Balanced Diet

Many people agree that the way to improve health and wellness depends on how we control our diet and our eating habits.

In short, it means that in order to get the nutrition our body needs we need to maintain balance, variety, and moderation whenever we take our meals.

Here are some tips on how we can improve our health and wellness with a well balanced diet and healthy eating habits.

We need to eat a variety of foods that are rich in nutrients.

Variety

Our body needs more than 40 different nutrients in order to maintain our health and no single food group can supply all of them.

This is why we need to include a variety of foods in our diet - vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, whole-grain products, bread, and dairy.

Ideal Weight

Our weight depends on many factors - sex, age, height, and genetics.

If we tend to be in the overweight category we are more prone to cardiovascular diseases, stroke, cancer, and diabetes.

But that doesn’t mean that being thin is healthy. Thin people are more prone to osteoporosis and other health issues.

Maintain your ideal weight with the help of a dietitian and through various exercise activities.

According to surveys, most Americans don’t get the needed nutrients found in fruits and vegetables because their eating habits are mostly focused on meat and other dairy products.

Fruits and Vegetables

In order to get a balance of nutrients in the body, we need to eat 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of veggies every day.

Whenever we eat, we shouldn’t devour food like there’s no tomorrow.

Moderation

Health experts agree that in order to maintain our weight and still keep our body functioning properly throughout the day, we need to eat small portions of meals scattered throughout the day.

Eat Regularly

Never skip meals because if you do, it can lead to uncontrolled hunger which may

result in binge eating or overeating.

Whenever we feel hungry we tend to forget about nutrition and we just eat any available snack around.

It’s okay to eat snacks between meals but make sure that you don’t overeat because that will affect your appetite for the next mealtime.

Remember, healthy eating is not all about restricting your food intake or depriving yourself of the food you like to eat.

It’s about feeling good, having the energy you need for the day and keeping yourself healthy by preparing and eating what’s good for your body.
