Putting it into action

•How do I turn this into a successful Idle Free Awareness campaign at my school?

Week-long event with a year-round emphasisAir quality is a year-round issue:

Idle Free Awareness Week teaches students about our air and why it’s important (can be held in the fall)

During the winter months, poor air quality sometimes keeps students indoors during recess Use this event as an opportunity to organize parent-

volunteers to help during the stay-in recess days In the spring and summer months, ozone is an

issue You can save the posters from this event and hold a

“reminder rally” in the spring

Putting it into action

1. Meet with the principal▫ History of the state-wide campaign and

available resources▫ Relevance to student health▫ Opportunity to engage the school

community▫ Possible ‘Green Schools’ project (through

USEE)2. Find an available week on the school

calendar

3. Then, build a committee from existing, active groups at your school

▫ PTA▫ School Community Council▫ Faculty and/or student Green Team
