KEY INSIGHTS
•Most team members of social enterprise are volunteers with minimum or no pay
at all, thus it is hard to motivate and manage a team made of volunteers
•It is hard to find someone who can make long term commitment to the cause.
•It is difficult to produce steady outcome (since most team members may not be in
the same city and can only collaborate online.)
Team Problem
Sustainable Business Model
•Many social enterprises can’t get money from the people who get help, so they
usually resort to outside resources such as a board of charitable entrepreneurs orpublic donation.
•Constantly lobbying for funding diverts the focus of the social enterprise. Plus, young people usually lack the negotiation skill to persuade others to sponsor.
•A profitable social enterprise is regarded as suspicious and corrupted.
Resource Integration
•Everybody’s influence and knowledge is limited. The limitation of the founderappears to be the bottleneck of the organisation development.
•Young people lack the supportive network to be informed, encouraged and inspired.
•Young people don’t have the knowledge and experience on how to integrate the
resources at hand together to make a bigger impact
Ideation
IN SHORT
The quality of the team determines how far can the social enterprise go.
HOW MIGHT WE empower young people to better manage a team?
Young people don’t know how to make a sustainable business plan.
HOW MIGHT WE help young people to find a suitable business model
for their cause?
To run a social enterprise requires a bigger and more diversified network
to find mentorship and resources.
HOW MIGHT WE expand young people’s network and make mentors
more accessible?
