INTRODUCTION Wind energy water pumping systems
(WEWPSs) has higher efficiency (Purohit andKandpal, 2005) and lower investment (Smulders, 1996)compared to other renewable energy
water pumping systems. WEWPs are predicted to have higherdevelopment in the future (Kumar and Kandpal, 2007; Lara etal., 2011; Gopal et al., 2013) .
Wind pumps can supply water atcompetitive costs especially if it islocally manufactured (Smulders, 1996; Web-1) .

INTRODUCTION Wind energy is one of the most hopeful
renewable energy sources for water pumpingapplications for both direct and indirectcoupled with pump (via gear box transmission and electric devices) .
Irrigation generally involves farmers and/or localmanufacturers, it is not so critical to have amachine which can operate without any operator.
Windmills used for irrigation in the past tend tohave indigenous designs that are oftenimprovised or built by farmers as a method oflow-cost mechanization (Web-1, Web-2) .

INTRODUCTION The centrifugal pump is a good load for a wind
turbine (Johnson, 2006) . One of the centrifugal pumpsthat could be coupled to VAWT is large-diameter slow-speed centrifugal pumps (Web-3) .
The uniqueness of this centrifugal pump is theshape of its impeller. The impeller is onlycomposed of two horizontal pipes installed on
a vertical hub pipe. Both outer ends of thehorizontal pipe have a pair of centred holesorifice (fixed and sliding orifice). Each of
sliding orifice is equipped with a pair of spring.

Specification (Web-3) : Diameter : 95 cm Suction head : 1.5 m Efficiency : 30 %
Output Capacity(maximum) : 100 m 3 per hour in a strongwind.
