North South Transportation Initiative (NSTI)

• Major Investment Study conducted by Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC)

• Began in 2000 and completed in 2004

• OKI Board of Trustees accepted the report recommendation of Four continuous lanes on Interstate 75 throughout the OKI region, including auxiliary lanes as warranted.

• The NSTI also recommended a series of Access Modification Alternatives to be balanced with the overall Corridor Capacity improvements

I-75 Corridor Major Projects

The purpose of the project is to: • Improve safety

• Improve traffic flow and level of service

• Correct geometric deficiencies

• Maintain connections to key regional and national

transportation corridors

Mill Creek Expressway

MCE Project Summary • Phase 1: HAM-75-5.58, PID 82278; Award Date – May 2011; Completion Date – Sept. 2014

• Reconstruct I-75 on new horizontal and vertical alignments to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction.

• Reconstruct the Mitchell Avenue interchange to a Tight Urban Diamond Interchange to relieve congestion and improve safety.

• Widen Mitchell Avenue to accommodate the new interchange design.

• Phase 2: HAM-75-3.68, PID 82282; Award Date – Feb. 2010; Completion Date – Sept. 2011

• Replacement of the Monmouth Street overpass. • Reconstruction of Monmouth Street and its conversion to a local through street between Central

Parkway and Colerain Avenue. • Removal of the Bates Avenue Bridge to clear an overhead obstruction to future mainline

construction. • Removal of the pedestrian bridge between Colerain Avenue and Central Parkway to clear an

overhead obstruction to future mainline construction.

• Phase 3: HAM-74-18.00, PID 82284; Award Date – Nov. 2011 ; Completion Date – Sept. 2014 • Reconstruct the Colerain Avenue and Beekman Street intersection. • Upgrade the current ramps at the interchange by providing new pavement or pavement

rehabilitation. • Converting the facility to curb and gutter design, and adding pedestrian access between Colerain

Avenue and Elmore Street along the Beekman Street corridor. • Adding a westbound I-74 Access from Colerain Avenue. • Removing the ramp from I-74 WB to Elmore Street. • Removing the ramp from Spring Grove Avenue to I-74 EB.

MCE Project Summary • Phase 4: HAM-75-2.30, PID 76257; Award Date – Nov. 2012; Completion Date – July 2017

• Reconstruct I-75 on new horizontal and vertical alignments to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction. Provide auxiliary lanes between interchanges.

• Reconstruct the Hopple Street interchange and improve traffic operations on Hopple Street and Martin Luther King Drive.

• Construct noise walls along the I-75 corridor • Eliminate a left hand exit off of I-75 NB. • Provide full directional movement to I-75 from the Hopple Street interchange, eliminating the need for

local access at the I-74/75 interchange. • Construct new connector road for Hopple Street to Central Parkway

• Phase 5: HAM-75-3.85, PID 83723; Award Date – Oct. 2020; Completion Date – Aug. 2024

• Reconstruct I-75 on new horizontal and vertical alignments to allow for the addition of one continuous lane in each direction.

• Reconstruct I-74 between the I-74/75 interchange and the Beekman Street interchange to reduce congestion and improve safety.

• Reconstruct the I-74/75 interchange to relieve congestion and improve safety. • Construct noise walls along the I-74 corridor. • Eliminate local access ramps within the I-74/75 system interchange.

• Phase 6: HAM-75-7.72, PID 82283; Award Date – May 2013; Completion Date – Sept. 2015

• Replace existing RR Bridge over I-75 with a new bridge on new alignment. New bridge will accommodate future mainline I-75 design.

• New bridge will be designed to accommodate two tracks

MCE Project Summary • Phase 7: HAM-75-6.78, PID 82286; Award Date – Oct. 2020; Completion Date – Oct. 2023

• Reconstruct I-75 on new horizontal and vertical alignments to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction. Provide auxiliary lanes between interchanges as required.

• Construct noise walls along the I-75 corridor

• Phase 8: HAM-75-7.85, PID 77889; Award Date – Oct. 2017*; Completion Date – Oct. 2020

• Reconstruct I-75 on new horizontal and vertical alignments to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction. Provide auxiliary lanes between interchanges as required.

• Construct noise walls along the I-75 corridor.

• Reconstruct the I-75 interchange with SR-562 to improve safety and relieve congestion.

• Removal of the partial interchange with Towne Street.

• Phase 8A: HAM-4/561-2.66/7.01, PID 89835; Award Date – Apr. 2016*;

Completion Date – Oct. 2016

• Replace Bridge carrying Seymour Ave. over I-75.

• Reconstruct portions of Bridge Number HAM-4-0266.

TTV Project Summary • Phase 1: HAM-75-12.60, PID 82288; Award Date – Oct. 2015; Completion Date – Oct. 2018

• The scope of Phase 1 reconstruction limits are from south of Shepherd Lane to north of Glendale Milford Road. The following work is to be undertaken:

• Reconstruct IR 75 to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction • Reconstruct the Shepherd Lane interchange by moving the southbound ramps at Mangham Drive to

Shepherd Lane • Reconstruct the Glendale Milford interchange to accommodate capacity improvements Add auxiliary

lanes between Shepherd Lane and Glendale Milford Road

• Phase 2: HAM-GE Parkway, PID 88135; Award Date – Oct. 2015*; Completion Date – Oct. 2018 • The scope of Phase 2 reconstruction limits are from Shepherd Lane to Glendale Milford Road. The following

work is to be undertaken:

• Construct a local road between Shepherd Lane and Glendale Milford Road east and adjacent to IR 75 • Construct a ramp from southbound IR 75 at Glendale Milford road to tie in to the new local road.

• Phase 3: HAM-75-10.10, PID 88124; Award Date – April 2016* ; Completion Date – Oct. 2018 • The scope of Phase 3 reconstruction limits are from Paddock Road to Galbraith Road. The following work is

to be undertaken:

• Reconstruct IR 75 to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction • Reconstruct the left hand exit from northbound IR 75 to Galbraith Road as a right hand exit • Improve ramps for eastbound SR 126 to southbound IR 75, Galbraith Road to southbound IR 75 and

northbound IR 75 to eastbound and westbound SR 126 • Add auxiliary lanes between Paddock Road and SR 126

* Earliest possible Award Dates. Phases 2 and 3 do not have committed construction funding

TTV Project Summary • Phase 4: HAM-75-11.09, PID 88129; Award Date – Oct. 2015*; Completion Date –July 2017

• The scope of Phase 4 is to replace the railroad bridge over southbound IR 75. The following work is to be undertaken:

• Replace the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge over southbound IR 75 and the Millcreek

• Phase 5: HAM-75-11.02, PID 88132; Award Date – April 2016*; Completion Date–Oct. 2017 • The scope of Phase 5 reconstruction limits are Galbraith Road to south of Shepherd Lane on southbound IR

75. The following work is to be undertaken:

• Reconstruct southbound IR 75 to allow for four continuous lanes

• Construct an exit to Galbraith Road and Anthony Wayne Avenue with a C-D type ramp

• Add auxiliary lane between Galbraith Road and Shepherd Lane

• Phase 6: HAM-75-11.05, PID 88133; Award Date – Jan. 2018* ; Completion Date–Oct. 2019

• The scope of Phase 6 reconstruction limits are Galbraith Road to south of Shepherd Lane on northbound IR 75. The following work is to be undertaken:

• Reconstruct northbound IR 75 to allow for four continuous lanes

• Add auxiliary lane between Galbraith Road and Shepherd Lane

* Earliest possible Award Dates. Phases 4, 5 and 6 do not have committed construction funding

TTV Project Summary • Phase 7: HAM-75-10.52, PID 88134; Award Date – Jan. 2017; Completion Date – Oct. 2018

• The scope of Phase 7 is to add two ramps to the IR 75 and SR 126 interchange. The following work is to be undertaken:

• Construct a ramp for westbound SR 126 to northbound IR 75

• Construct a ramp for southbound IR 75 to westbound SR 126

• Remove existing ramp for Galbraith Road to westbound SR 126

• Phase 8: HAM-75-10.10, PID 76256; Award Date – Jan. 2017; Completion Date – Oct. 2018 • The scope of Phase 8 reconstruction limits are Glendale Milford to Kemper Road. The following work is to be

undertaken:

• Reconstruct IR 75 to allow for four continuous lanes in each direction

• Improve ramp capacity at the Sharon Road interchange

• Add auxiliary lanes between Glendale Milford Road and Sharon Road and between Sharon Road and IR 275

• HAM- Demo Stearns / Foster, PID 95567; Award Date – May 2014; Completion Date – Jan. 2015 • The scope is to demolish the remaining Stearns and Foster structure.

* Earliest possible Award Dates. Phases 7 and 8 do not have committed construction funding
