How To Use Photoshop

By Kamar Ali

Introduction

Before I Start making my school magazine we got a lesson on how to use some of the basic tools on Photoshop

When you first go on Photoshop you will be greeted by this page. For the purpose of this tutorial we will got to file, then new and select international paper and go to A4.

Now that we have the page open we will need to add an image, or in this case a shape. To add a shape you go to the square shape and click on it, then you can select what shape you would like to use.

You can then drag the shape across were you want it, and when you let go the shape will appear where you left the outline.

You can then click the mouse icon on the top right corner and this can allow you to move the shape around.

To transform a image you can go to edit, then to transform path, and you can use any of the tools available to transform the picture, so in this case I am making the picture larger, then smaller.

You can use the Marquee tool to select a certain part of a picture, and then you can drag the box around where you want it and this can be used to select certain parts of a picture.

You can use the magnetic Lasso tool to cut out a picture by dragging it around the image you may want to cut out, it will the ‘magnetically’ connect to the image and sect it all. As you can see there is a outline around the characters where the magnetic lasso tool has been.

As you can see the whole image has now been selected and I cant cut it as well as do other things to the image, as it is now selected.

Here is the magic wand tool and as you can see you can select a certain [part of a picture and this will automatically selected the white area so I could get rid of it.

As you can see I have deleted the background of the picture so I only have the image of the Simpsons and the white in the background has gone.

Here is the quick selection tool, so you can quickly select an image to use, so as you can see the whole image has been selected and I can cut it out.

Here is the crop tool, you can use it to cut of a part of an image and then once you have cropped the image it will appear on its on and take it away from the whole image.

Once you’ve selected the part of the image this box will appear and when you press the crop button the image will crop.

As you can now see the image has been cropped and now only this part of the image is now only present.

Here is the shape tool and as you can see I have drawn a square on the page using the tool. You can also choose different shapes like circles and hexagons.

And here is the text tool which allows you to add text to the document. You can then change the colour and the text size etc…

So we have now gone through some of the simple Photoshop tools which I will be using while making my school based magazine and finally in my music magazine.
