‘Given this sector’s importance in total value added (15-20% of GDP), we believe that the business services sector accounts for a large part of the EU’s negative productivity differential vis-à-vis the USA. This conclusion seems to be broadly in line with the findings of numerous other authors such as Van Ark et al. (2008).
